Help finding Engine Stamp #'s on 71 BB
Hello, Sorry if this answer posted already somewhere.
I've been searching and I can't seem to find a definitive answer. My truck has a 454 in it but I'm not sure out of what. I've seen a few posts that the code is posted under the driver side valve cover. I've seen others that say it's on the rear drivers side of the block, another that says front passenger side head. Any input is appreciated. Thank you ![]() |

casting numbers are on top of block behind the drivers head. suffix codes are stamped on top of the block in front of pass head..

Re: Help finding Engine Stamp #'s on 71 BB
You can hold a digital camera pointed down back there and snap away. Also mirrors are good for this too.
If your engine has a stock intake get the casting #'s off of it. There are casting #'s on the heads but you have to pull the valve covers. All these numbers add up and should give you something to go on.

The casting number on the rear of the block will tell you it is a 454. The suffix codes on the right front will tell you the application it was used in. Sometimes they do disappear if the block has been resurfaced.
