1958 Apache original transmission color - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone remember or know what the original color is for an old 1958 Chevy Apache 3 speed transmission? I have a numbers matching V-8 eng & transmission, trying to keep everything original. Upon cleaning the the casing I found some evidence of black,however just not sure. Any advise or info would be most appreciated.

All the ones I have seen were a semi flat black like the frame and suspension parts. It only has a very minimal shine to it but not dead flat. The closest I have come to it is Krylon barbecue flat black paint

I remember them from back in the 60,s. And all I ever seen where rusty. never seen one that looked like it was painted from the factory. a few had a little overspray of engine color on the top near the bellhousing.

My favorite rattlecan black is Duplicolor 1634 engine paint. Dries to a satin finish, like the original frames and is heat resistant.
