Question Hood Liners

Since I'm building my truck to be 100% reliable and daily driven I'm contemplating installing a hood liner. Even though it only rains 6 months out of the year now it still gets cold in the winter. I don't plan to use a traditional hood liner or even the one by Dynamat. I plan to use that aluminum sided bubble wrap you can buy a Lowes or Home Depot. Its light enough that it wont sag and it insulates quite well, I plan to install it with using 3M Window Weld Sealer. That stuff once dry is on there and nothing short of grinding it off will remove it hot or cold weather.

Re: Hood Liners

I would not for the issue of trapping moisture and promoting rust.

Re: Hood Liners

I was planning to put one under my hood to keep the heat from the engine from damaging my paint. Is that not a good idea. I had never heard of them capturing moisture.

Re: Hood Liners

A friend of mine in the h.v.a.c biz used black half inch fiberglass job leftover stuff, rigging it with the 2 underside bolt on supports to cover the middle portion. It was ok but didn't seem to do too much. I cant imagine the motor making the hood any hotter than the summer sun could but I dont know...seems like anything you put will look unattractive, but that bubble stuff would really.... (ahem) stand out.

Re: Hood Liners

Compared to the ugly Dynamat one that's just as shiny? Besides the fact that it isn't a show truck and the hood will remain closed even if I do go to a show with it.

Besides I already mounted it tonight after work...

Re: Hood Liners

Lastly, The hood underside was shot with four coats on paintable undercoating and then painted with black Hammerite which I know seals out rust in the open even near the ocean.
