Squealing kind of noise
I put a new 350 in me truck last month and finally got to drive it around. Well I drove it on two short trips and all was good. When I went to drive it the third time I was getting a loud squealing type noise but only under accelerating. I checked the headers and the driver side one was lose I tighten it up but it still makes the noise but I don’t think it is as loud now. I got new gaskets on the way to work thinking I may have blown that one out. Is there anything else I should check if that is not it?
I also read that it could be the speedo cable. I did not think about looking at that when I was driving but I do know it use to bounce a little around 20-30 mph. The 350 has a bigger cam, roller rockers, and Pete Jackson gears. Its in a 1986c-10 Thanks Evan |

Re: Squealing kind of noise
Good Morning,
You may have answered your own question. A geared timing setup can make quite a bit of noise especially if your unfamiliar with their sound. Also check your belts. Rub a little soap on the top while the engine is running. Have a Great Glorious Day! Terry |

Re: Squealing kind of noise
I though about the gears also but it seems like a higher pitch sound. The first few starts the starter was acting like it was hanging up a little so I am going to check that after work also.
thanks Evan |

Re: Squealing kind of noise
A loose power steering belt can squeal so can a water pump bearing, may want to check those
water pumps can stop squealing after a engine start. sometimes a broom stick moved from each part to ear can narrow it down

Re: Squealing kind of noise
I found the sound. I feel kind of dumb. I did not know a flex plate really flexed. When I put on my mini starter I did not measure it just seen that it was not touching. I guess when I hit the gas it was close enough to touch. Shimmed the starter and all is good.
Thanks again Evan |

Re: Squealing kind of noise
I had to remove them on mine PO put in to fix the mashing of gear teeth, when i got it
I removed it,and replaced the flex-plate,its better now on the truck it was hard to tell, but compared to the old one... it's mentioned the gap is as little as a paper clip, when properly meshed
