Re: Broken Hood release clip

I've had this happen on an old wagoneer several times. the only way to get it loose is to get something in there to physically move the hook mechanism, a long flathead screwdriver works well to help push the hook latch back and release the hood. If you're grill is in the way you can try to remove the grill to get better visibility and access.

Re: Broken Hood release clip

Im having the same problem, the cable has stretched and wont release the hood. Anyone have any idea how to pop it? I cant seem to get at it from the bottom, the fan shroud stops you from reaching it...

Grab the cable behind the handle and pull.

Re: Broken Hood release clip

I pulled the cable instead of the housing and the cable just broke, now I have no clue what to do, maybe a mirror and long pick would work...

Re: Broken Hood release clip

I haven't replied because I don't know either. They were made theft proof for a reason and there is no easy way to unlatch the hood without a functioning cable. I have been lucky a few times by using a vise grip on the broken cable and yankin the heck out of it. If that didn't work, I'm picturing destroying the fan shroud somehow and removing the fan and hopefully some skinny fellow could fit up in there and unlatch it.
