E brake cable differences

I come from the 67-72 world so forgive me if this is a stupid question. An hours worth of searching didn't get me a definite answer.

I am working on a 66 GMC 1/2 ton long bed, the vin number agrees with that description. However I am not sure if some parts have been swapped around. I need to find this sort of e brake cable.

Everything I find for 66 says it also fits 66+ and has the C clip holding it to the backing plate. Is this one a 65 and earlier style or something along those lines? I just need to order e brake cables and can't seem to find the right ones at the parts house or online. It's a dana 44 axle by the way. Thanks!

Re: E brake cable differences

I don't have the answer for you, but the issue with the parts listing is that they don't differentiate between GMC's having the Dana 44 and the Chevy's having the 12 bolt. They seem to assume that the '72 and earlier GMC's also had the 12 bolt. The Dana 44 is somewhat difficult to find brake parts for. There is a lengthy thread here somewhere about one members ordeal finding brake drums for his GMC with a Dana 44.

Re: E brake cable differences

I don't know if this applies in this case but the GMC's built in Canada are mostly Chevy clones with cosmetic changes to look like GMC's so not all the parts interchange from one GMC to the other...

Critter:
GMC's are different from Chevies because the GMC used a Dana 44 rear. Take your old ones off and send them to:
http://www.inlinetube.com/

Those folks will use the brackets off of your old cables and make you an exact replacement. Prices last time I used them were also very reasonable.

PS GMC Club website is at:

They can steer you in the right direction on your GMC.
