85 C4 Suspension on 1950 Frame

I have a 1950 frame that I'm going to box in. But I was wondering if anyone here has used the early C4 suspension on the original frame. If so did you build build the front cradle and all the brackets for the front and rear? I have seen where you can buy all of that from Flat Out Engineering for like $1600. Thanks

Me personally, I coped-out and went with purchasing the hardware from flat out but there is a member who goes by Stockish who has way more skill than I who fabricated his own parts.

I built my rear brackets for my 50, I spent $52 for the steel plates and did all the milling at work after hours. Not really all that hard.

That is what I am thinking about doing myself. Did you use the 85-87 or the 88-96 suspension and how did it work out?

That is what I would like to do but don't really have the skills or access to the equipment to do it properly.

I don't think the rear brackets would be difficult at all. The front might be a different story but there really isn't much to the rear.

So, I went the Flat-out route. (92 C4 parts) It is easy to install but there are a few things that are not said about the kit. The following is my opinion and some of the issues I had that I wish I had known before installing the kit. I did not have the body on the frame so I was at a disadvantage. I think most people want to center the wheels in the wheel well when they modify the suspension. You can move the front forward but it is not addressed in the instructions. You need to know how far forward you want to move the wheels to center them. Also the rear cannot be moved without modification to the kit. Research the wheelbase before buying the kit. There was an article in Classic or Custom Classic trucks in the past year or so that gives some details about the kit. I can tell you more if you want to PM me. Good Luck
