Lowered Coil Springs

I am thinking about dropping my 66 longbed using coil springs. I am looking at 2" in front and 4" in the back. I am wondering if I am going to run into any surprises if I go this route. I know I will have to modify the panhard bar (right?), but is there anything else I might be running into? Has anyone else gone this route and wish they hadn't? Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

You will probably need shorter shocks for the front. The rear as you mentioned you are going to have to rework the panhead bar or buy an adjustable one. You will also need shorter shocks in the rear and I would consider installing shock relocator kit in the rear.

I recently lowered mine. I used 2.5" drop spindles and 2" lowering springs up front. 4" lowering springs in the rear. Lowering shocks in the front and lowering shocks, shock relocater and custom panheadbar in the rear.

I am looking at the same set up on my 66. After getting some input from other members I will likely go with a complete kit from CPP, here is their link. http://www.classicperform.com/
You can pick and choose parts or they do have a complete kit with springs, new shorter shocks, and new shock mounts. They also have adjustable panhard bars available. I would also take the time to put in new trailing arm bushings and look at all those other little suspension bits at the same time.

I just installed a CPP 3"/4" spring drop kit yesterday. Installed the adjustable pan-hard bar, relocation brackets, and front re-enforcement brackets. Nice kit, installed the same kit on my 72 Suburban. Give Jeff Norton at CPP a call, ask for your forum discount. Good luck

I lowered my 64. 4 inch lower rear coils. I did not use shock relocation kit. I did use a duel adjustable track bar from CCP.

Just finished mine over here in England.

2" dropped springs, shocks all round and another 2" lowering blocks in the rear.

I LOVE IT !!!

Thanks for all the replies. I am really trying to get by with the lowest expense possible for this project. For the panhard bar, I plan on cutting and sleeving it when I get the rear centered up. I didn't really want to have to buy new shocks because I just bought the ones I have on it now, but don't think I have any other option than to go with shorter shocks.

I installed 2 and 1/2 inch drop spindles. Disk brakes on the front.

I used 2.5 inch drop spindles and 1 inch drop coils in front and 4 inch drop coils in the rear and had no issues. I used the stock track bar but did go with a set of lowered shocks.

for the rear shocks use your front shocks put them on the back and just buy front lowering shocks.

I also read you can put stock front shocks on the rear of a lowered truck. I bought a set of stock height shocks and installed them on my truck that has 4" lowering springs in the rear. To me it felt like the shocks didn't have enough travel. I ended up switching them out for a longer shock. But every truck is different and everyone has different results.
