s-10 bed swap?

Anybody ever tried swapping an s-10 bed onto a short bed c-10? I have not measured or anything yet. I am not a fan of newer beds on these old trucks but am having a difficult time finding short fleetside bedsides. Just thinking and wondering if its ever been tried before. At least the s-10 bed does not have than bump near the bottom front to back.

Re: s-10 bed swap?

imo I would cut down a long fleet, or go with a step bed..
I would think a s10 bed would be too narrow.
or what about a flat bed until you source a fleet?
there are 2 short flatbeds in my town, one belongs to a local brewery, the other has stacks, slots and a hot rod rake, total 70's truck, but still looks cool!

Re: s-10 bed swap?

Yeah, I hear ya. I also kinda thought it was probably a little short and narrow, but, I got one on my property I pulled off years ago when I used the frame as a donor for a 41 Chevy coupe project. Just thinking out loud. I do have a long fleet side bed but it's not that straight to begin with.
just keep looking. Truck's a was away from running anyhow.

Re: s-10 bed swap?

Until someone starts making short fleet bedsides I would find a long bed and cut it down. The s10 bed would look goofy IMHO. You might have to buy a complete truck to get a bed but then you would have a ton of parts to use or sell.

Re: s-10 bed swap?

I do know what you mean.

I actually have a parts truck with a long bed on it. Some dents , no rust. I will cut it down if I am unable to find a short fleetside bed. I have seen some for near $1,000. Will probably have to cough up to get one. I really don't see the savings myself with the time it will take to cut and bodywork a long bed. Just thinking out loud on the s-10. really didn't think it would work.

Re: s-10 bed swap?

All the beds for a shortbed that I have seen go for 1k-3k around here, so finding a complete or almost complete longbed for parts for a grand doesn't seem too bad. You can probably have it cut down and welded back tegether in an afternoon. Having it done would be pretty spendy though.
