Front Spindle - Damaged?

I'm doing a brake job on all four drums... new shoes, cylinders, and hardware (springs, clips, etc) and I'm hoping y'all might have some of advice on this spindle. Is that just rust that I can clean off or is that evidence of heat damage and/or wear?

I've done enough brake jobs to feel comfortable with it but I've never had to mess with spindles before.

Re: Front Spindle - Damaged?

I assume you are talking about the rough looking area in the middle. That is the raw area of the casting that did not get machined when the made the spindle. It is not a problem at all.

Re: Front Spindle - Damaged?

Yep, I was talking about the rusty looking area. I was looking at new spindles online and none of them had rough areas like that... they were all smooth and shiny.

I'm glad to hear it's not an issue though as I really just want to get the brakes back on and rolling again.

Thanks!
