Went to the lake today

I figured I'd share some pictures I took of my trip today, went out for a little Late-in-the-year Christmas tree hunting. Most of the trip in 2wd, but came stopped on a hill and left it in 4Hi for a while. the skinny BFG's worked quite well!

235/85/16's ! I've been really happy with them, they ride really nice and aren't a super heavy tire either

What's the purpose of the massive bumper?

Aside from the winch? I have no Idea! It has some holes drilled in it, and this truck is from the Yukon originally. maybe it was a fire department truck? mounts for a Jerry Can and Chainsaw, perhaps? It sure made doing plugs and wires easy!

Re: Went to the lake today

My guess is it was an old fire truck. This 27,000 original miles 79 k30 firetruck has a very similar bumper. Unfortunately I didn't win the bid for it.

That's pretty cool! It almost looks like a rear bumper? On mine the front and rear are both made from 1/4 Plate steel, Very heavy! It's interesting though, because I bought the truck from the 'Original owners son' after he had passed, Maybe he bought it from the Fire Dept.?

That fire department truck is interesting. Is that a cab & chassis rear end or something? Don't tend to see narrow duallies.

Yes, the truck was originally a cab and chassis truck. You can tell from the gap between the cab and bed in the pic below. There was barely enough clearence for the wheels to fit inside the wheel wells.

I got a rather nice, Charlie Brown tree! I think everyone else had already been there and chopped down the nice ones, haha

Re: Went to the lake today

Tough looking truck! I looked at a really clean '73 4x4 with swapped in Dana 60s and a 454 before I bought my 2WD '74. Nicely done swap, TH400, 205, and a small lift. Went like a Bull Elk in rut.

It was a bit beyond my budget, though not in outright purchase price but in the abysmal fuel-economy it would return.

That said, I almost did it anyway. Squarebodies make the best looking woods-trucks. They're like tin-pants: They only get better with age.

Re: Went to the lake today

Thats the goal for this one, I've seen some bad-ass lookin Square bodies, and I want to make this one scary looking! but at the same time, be the truck you hope pulls over if your broken down, you know? I want a headache rack, a checker plate toolbox, a set of amber cab lights a bigger electric winch, and a couple LED light bars for the bumper

Armstrong has some beautiful back country. I used to live near Kamloops many moons ago.
