What transmission cooler? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've decided to go with a dedicated transmission oil cooler. I have a 450HP SBC with a TH400 trans. I've narrowed it down to these two coolers. One is a Hayden and the other is a B&M Following are links to both. Thanks in advance for any help! If anyone has a recommendation othe that these two coolers, I'm willing to listen.

B&M cooler is very well built plus accommodates AN fittings if you choose to plumb it. Its an exact copy of the OEM one I replaced in my 97 Silverado but larger. The Hayden is not as efficient due to the design compared to the stacked plate type like the B&M. The stacked plate type designs are used in general aviation as engine oil coolers. I bought mine through Summit racing with free shipping.

I have a B&M also on my 4.3 truck because of the recommendations on various forums for the same reason joe states, the stacked plates is very efficient, all that outside surface area in contact with the fluid and can cool the fluid in a large desired temperature change. the hayden fin type is more efficient used in vapor cycle systems where the system undergoes a state change (fluid to gas) in a very narrow desired temperature change or with a very large fluid cooler like a radiator.

I have the B&M style on my RV and works great. I don't think the other one will be as efficient.

The plate style (the B&M one) is the best style and you will find them on many OEM applications. They run cooler and I have been using them for decades.

If you have air Conditioning do you nount it in front of the Air Con Condenser?

'65 chevy lover, Where are you thinking about mounting it? I've got a hayden style cooler for my TH400, but being that large, the only real spot I can mount it is right behind the grille.

I don't have a radiator with a transmission cooler. I'm using the B&M independently.
