Original finish on hatch strikers?

Anyone know what the original finish is on the hatch strikers (borrowed pic - thanks Harry)? Painted or natural/zinc coated? I've got a loose set that's white and have some parts to be powder coated. If originally white I'll have these coated with some other hatch/top small parts. Thanks, Pete

That makes sense and was my assumption until I pulled out a spare set with paint (for what that's worth) so thought I'd try to clarify.

Re: Original finish on hatch strikers?

Were the hatch struts painted? Mine are black, but could have been painted when the PO painted the top black. I also have parts that need to go for powder coat. My guy gives be a better deal in bulk.

What about the bracket that connects the rear of the top to the bed? I was planning on having that painted white along with my hatch hinges. All the above mentioned are currently black.

Re: Original finish on hatch strikers?

I believe the struts were metal (zinc?) finish and not painted. The top to bedside brackets I believe are white.

That sounds about right. I'll just sandblast the paint off my struts and paint the brackets and hinges.

What about the heads of the bolts on the bedside brackets? Zinc or painted?

Mine are body color as well but I can't confirm as correct OEM finish...

Not sure bolt finish, guess natural/zinc - hoping a member w a survivor K5 can help us out. The re-plated zinc hatch hardware on Ironcanine's build looks fantastic btw...

The top I bought had them body colored. Bolts were black though.

Don't know if this will help, GMC with a double-wall, and it never had the top to box brackets. Sorry the stuff is dirty.

Re: Original finish on hatch strikers?

After 40 years mine could have been painted to match the body. If you're are original I'd go with that.

The pics are helpful thank you. Now need to confirm the finish was on the 1x wall top to bedside bracket...white or body color?

Re: Original finish on hatch strikers?

Both the striker and bracket were bed color on
Mine. I think bed color looks better on the bracket.

The top has never been off this Jimmy, nothing ever painted and Mom bought it less than a year old. That don't mean Chevy did it the same or other years besides '70 did it like this. As you can tell, I haven't put Wes' hatch stops on yet either!

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Pete. Looks like a bunch of variations on the top to bed bracket.

No worries at all! Would be great to get more input. It would seem difficult for GM to individually paint the top to bed brackets rather than paint all white - and the front brackets are painted white IIRC.

Pete,
My olive 72 top has never been off. It is a double wall though. rear body to top brackets are body color, everything else appears to be natural finish

yours is the 1st I have seen that does not look like it had the metal body to top brackets on the rear? Not even a welded nut in the panel to put one from what I see. Is this the norm on the GMC's?

Re: Original finish on hatch strikers?

Richard - yours looks just like that on my 1x wall top. My K5 was painted before it came to me so I wasn't sure if the paint on the brackets were OEM or not. That's helpful. What's the consensus - painted body color then?

69 and 70's dont have the metal bracket. I have a 69, 70 and some 72's and the 69 and 70 never had them.

I wouldn't really know, this is the only first gen K5 I've ever had, but Briank's post #23 sounds reasonable to me!
