Will Turn-Downs make my exhaust louder? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

PreRunner82 and I were having a debate, he said that if I put turn-downs on my exhaust, it will make it louder, because the sound will bounce off the ground, then the bed. Is this right? My truck is lowered, and my exhaust currently looks like this:

When I turned mine down the sound wasent necessarily louder, but it was considerably deeper. It made my 305 sound like a ground poundin' BB.

Btw, turndowns suck when you have to drive on dirt or gravel roads. It makes everything dusty.

DEEPER is good...Summit sells the mandrel bent turn-downs for $17 each..so I'll prolly order em, then have the shop weld em up. If it doesn't make it 100% DEEPER, then I'm comin lookin for you!

In that pic....turndowns will make it less loud and drone about 100% less. If the truck is really low it will make it thump harder /deeper

It doesn't drone at all right now...the truck is sorta low. I mean, i took that picture with the rear end rolled up on some ramps, that's prolly why it doesn't look low. The mufflers are about...12" off the ground...is that too high to make the sound deeper?

Im sure it will sound good still. but it will probably be quieter.

Please consider this statement. Not only does it stir up dust everytime you pull in a parking lot, it P!SSES PEOPLE OFF! I hate being at show or cruise dusting off my ride when some goober with half an exhaust and turn downs comes through. Of course they rev it up to impress everyone, and guess what MORE DUST.

I vote NO for turn downs....

In my opinion i would run the exhaust all the way out the rear of the truck. alot of noise under the truck makes it noisey in the cab. I like all the sound outside the the truck not under it. to improve your exhaust and performance why not ad a h-pipe or x pipe. Balances the flow and improve low end torque. but the would make it less noisey lol.

what else are you supposed to do besides turndowns when I have to cut the bed floor out so the axle can come up into the bed? I CANT have full exhaust.

I've got turndowns as well an love them. But then again I don't have a lowered truck like others so I don't rev up as much dust as others.

I wouldn't exit in front of the tires. If anything have it exit the rear of the back tires. I had this before and liked it with glass packs.

I have turn downs on mine. It's not too loud in the cab. When you are stopped you can hear it resonating through out the cab. I like it, sounds good. If I ever get my camcorder working right I'll post a clip on here.

stacks with flaps on em! LOL. Well, you know what, I have an older MiniTruckin with a purple Mazda in it, I think that has it right in front if the tire in the wheelwell. I wonder how that would look?

I would not do it. The reason why mine is not coming out in front of my wheels is because I did want my wheels to turn black.

Why dont you want turndowns again?

If you aim the tips or pipe right the exhaust should go right past the rim and tire. Also if you want max sound keep the mufflers as close to the headers as possible then run the turndowns.

You don't have to have a full exhaust. You can turn it out toward the side.

Just because you have a bridge, and a cut bed, doesn't mean you can't run an exhaust out the back. It can be done....

Since my Blazer doesn't have the bed(body) cut out, it's not as difficult, but it does have a 4-link to deal with. Full exhausts can be done if you get someone that knows what they are doing....

Hmmm? There has to be someone there, or close by that can weld U-bends. Look harder, and you might find them.

Excuse the crooked exhaust on the drivers side of my Blazer. It is not finish welded yet, and can still be adjusted...
