alternator
1964 chevy c10 with 283. New alternator and still does not seem to be charging battery. hooked up meter to battery and had 12.9 volts. started engine expecting it to rise and it fell to 12.5.

Have you checked the voltage regulator for function and wiring issues?

I installed a new alternator on another type of vehicle and had the problem of intermittent charging. Returned new alternator and exchanged for another, same problem. After 3 days of tinkering, I found the brand new shiny powder coated bracket was not grounding the alternator. Put ground wire from alternator to block and everything perfect. Try a ground wire.

Did you figure out the problem? Does it have an internal or external regulator?
