best way to restore (paint) 65 sail panels???

im looking for some advise on how to restore the sail custom panels on a 64-66? I have them in for polishing but whats the best way to paint the black?
anyone done this before?

Size:  111.8 KBi tried the oven cleaner,then moved to scotch brite and 1500 wet sand paper,polished with mothers.then used black touch up paint (vivid black) to fill in custom lettering,was happy with results .lines could be done as well just takes alot of time and steady hand

Dave that's a good corner shot of you truck I love that color. I did mine using the write up oem posted painting letters on a grill. Just takes time and don't try to go to fast.

I used the same technique for painting the rocker trim on my "63 vette, which is about 5 feet of straight lines nearly identical to the grooves on the sail trim. Came out perfect. Actually WAY better than factory, even if incorrect.

I wish that was a corner shot of my truck. I stole the pic on the net. I better change it. don't want to give the wrong impression.
