Chevy Canopy express

Hi guys I found a canopy express for sale in AZ and I am wondering if you guys think it is worth my time. I am in northern il and would cost quite a bit to get it shipped here and my understanding is there isn't much rust at all. No chassis, front clip, or rear fenders

Re: Chevy Canopy express

Clip is same a PU, fenders same as burbs. Money is in the unique canopy express body work. IF you want the open back I would go for it. I could see restoring it and using it for my wife's organic veggie business....

Re: Chevy Canopy express

That would depend on how badly you want one too. They are rare and perhaps you could search for any others that are for sale...might be hard to find one. Compare that price to the total of your purchase price, shipping then the cost of your build. Rear fenders for a Suburban can be a bit pricey.

Would be pretty cool when done.

Re: Chevy Canopy express

I thought that the CE's had a back wall behind the cab? I could be wrong as you don't see many of them, but I wonder if this one was made into a CE. During a quick image search I found some with and others without the back cab wall???

Again I'm no CE expert.

Re: Chevy Canopy express

Yes they did have a wall there and he is asking 3500 wich I am not sure about because there is no title but he said he has extras and could make a vin plate for a title. I am not in need of it by any means but I like a car that not everyone can have.

It's worth what the seller will let it go for, or what the next guy is willing to pay.

Re: Chevy Canopy express

I found this and it seems to show a partition between the driver area and back. I looked in the accessories and RPO lists and could not find the partition listed. But in the accessories I did find an electric shaver listed. Has anyone every heard of or seen one? I assume it plugs into the cigar lighter.

This alone tells me you should walk away. Make a vin plate......... Any time someone starts swapping numbers its too sketchy for me. On these old trucks it is easy to swap the body serial plate but its still sketchy. Unfortunately these canopy expresses are hard to come by. I know where one is sitting in south Louisiana and its the only one I have ever seen. It was complete and in great shape for being original.

The one above is from Md. and is owned by an official with the NSRA. He drives the balls off it and enjoys every minute.
I think it is just a cool old truck

Re: Chevy Canopy express

Get in touch with Neals49...his is super cool and always draws a crowd. Nothing like it at any of the shows. I say go for it. They are a little different, but not in a "rare but still ugly" way. More of a unique and cool way.

Re: Chevy Canopy express

If I were to but it it would cost me whatever the truck costs and then shipping wich would probably be around a grand so I think I am going to leave it because I am interested at 1-1,500

There was a man in Billings, MT who only restored '58 Chevy cars. He had one with the under dash record player and IIRC a shaver on the seat.

I looked through my '58 accessory manual but no shaver. But I saw fog lights and a vacuum ash tray.
