70 C10 307 Power Steering Conversion Question (Newbie)
I purchase a 1970 C10 with a 307 last week and the previous owner had started to convert to power steering. He had already installed the gear box and made all necessary steering assembly replacements. He told me all that was left was to install the pump, and he provided me with the pump, brackets, and hoses he had already acquired. I was looking through the FAQ's here and found a lot of great information, but there was one thing I can't quite figure out. Is the power steering pump driven off of the crank or the water pump?
I have worked on cars for a long time, but this is my first attempt at a restoration. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the crank pulley, did it come with a 3 grove pulley or a 1 grove? you will need the 3 grove for power steering

Thank you. I have been googling belt diagrams and come up with nothing so far. Only problem I see is that my alternator is on the driver's side above where the power steering pump will be. Though out of placement, that shows also that the power steering is driven directly off of the crank with no other accessories. When replacing the crank pulley, is there anything else that needs to be considered? Thank you guys for the quick replies.

The illustration in post #3 appears to be a long water pump. Here's a pic for a short pump,

Re: 70 C10 307 Power Steering Conversion Question (Newbie)
The short water pump setup is very similar to the Corvette setup. And except for the arm on top of the alternator that is longer on the 'Vette, may be the same. (69-79 range) May be easier to find pics.

Thank you. I have found out that is one of the keys to working on these, knowing installation cross-references for parts.

Re: 70 C10 307 Power Steering Conversion Question (Newbie)
The pic in post #7 is of a Oldsmobile 307 or so I think. I don't think it is one of the General's orange[meaning Chevrolet] motors. Jim
