Bucket seat question
May be buying a 72 which was originally a bench seat truck. PO installed a set of buckets from he believes a 71 truck or blazer. They appear to be sitting lower than a bench would.
Should there be certain mounting brackets installed with the buckets for them to sit "normal" height? Any info is appreciated. Thanks! |

If they are Blazer seats with Blazer brackets, they will sit at the same height as the bench seats. I would asssume that the truck buckets would sit as high, also.
I am not sure what you have. Do you have any pics? Jim |

YEP -- JIMS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. I'VE REPLACED SEVERAL BENCH SEATS WITH BUCKETS. & IF YOU USE THE STOCK BUCKET SEAT SLIDES & RISERS OUT OF EITHER A PICKUP OR BLAZER, THEY ARE THE RIGHT HEIGHT. JOHN

Thanks very much for the info. Hopefully I'll get the truck over the weekend and take a closer look.

Did 69 or 70 Blazers come with different looking seats then 71 and 72's? I saw one at a junkyard with metal backs on the seats but I thought all Blazer buckets looked the same.

uh oh! Whats the difference between regular buckets and "utility" buckets. I thought they all had metal backs to them. Thanks, Jeff.

Utility buckets are bigger - more square then the sport buckets. Utility buckets did have metal backs and came in the Blazer/BurbsS--but not the light trucks. Sport buckets had plastic backs in the blazers/burbs but no backs in the trucks.
When I put sport buckets into my truck, I used stock, correct truck mounts but was not happy with the "feel" so I put some 2x4 wood blocks under the mounts which raised the seats about 1&3/4 inch. Now the seat backs are slightly higher then the lower section of the rear window metal which allows for the seats to sit back just a bit more. This way I get a little more leg room. |

Dang! I guess that means I will be looking for a set of the sport buckets. The new seat covers I have probably won't fit either. They are houndstooth model. Man. Anybody want to trade for a set of utility buckets?

One more question......the truck I will be getting is a 72 super cheyenne. If I want to keep it stock looking, should the seats be recovered in houndstooth, or did they also use the plain design on the buckets in a 72 super as well (seats not original to the truck, but would like to keep as original in appearance as I can).
Thanks again guys. |

Buckets only came from the factory with the scroll vinyl covers...the hounds tooth bucket covers are something the parts suppliers started making

What about the plaid seat covers and the style in my Jimmy, just plain perforated black, they don't have any scroll.

There were four available highland trim seat patterns for buckets in Blazers and Suburbans in 72... 71 I think so also..
Metal back auxilary bucket seat were available in all year Blazers.

Also 69-70 truck sub/ blazer / buckets had one scroll and 71-72 truck/ blazer sub/ buckets had 2 scrolls. If they had the sport bucket option... A50.

Anybody know if the seat covers I have will fit the utility buckets? They are houndstooth style. How much bigger are the utility seats anyway?

The utility buckets are quite a bit bigger, maybe 6 inches wider then the sport buckets.

Wow great info guys thanks, and the pics are really appreciated.
BTW I noticed someone on the board referencing floorpans from a truck with buckets. Is the only difference in the floor pan the bolt holes for the brackets, or were there other changes between a bench vs bucket truck floorpan? |

The floorpan is the same with all seat configurations. The bucket equipped trucks had a different bolt hole location and reenforcement brackets welded to underside of cab.
It's an easy swap to put in OE 69-72 buckets in place of your bench...and it's a CPNE approved upgrade!

Actually the utilility bucket Blazer I have has the passenger side latching thing closer to the edge as opposed to being in the center for the sport buckets. There is a support bracket that I need for my sport bucket Jimmy and the Utility bucket Blazer doesnt have it under the floor.

Ok, unfortunately they are the blazer buckets, almost identical to Rod's pic above. Can anyone give me an idea of what the pair including mounting brackets and a center console are worth (driver's seat torn)? I may decide to go back to a bench.
Thanks again to everyone. |

Does anyone sell replacement foam for the buckets? I'm getting ready to recover mine and I really could use new foam on the driver's side.
