Converting Rear Drums to Disc - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am getting a little ahead of myself with this one, but I working out my budget for the frame, suspension, and brakes.

Is changing out the drums on the rear a good way to go, ie, worth the money? I know I am going to have to buy new drums as the old ones are to worn.

Has anyone done this that would give me some thoughts? What is the ballpark cost to do this?

this is ONLY from what ive HEARD sense front disks do almost all the stoping power rears arnt worth it
to convert www.classicperform.com works or you can use parts off a caddy seville,
again this is just what ive heard

Discs don't fade as fast as drums, there more efficent than drums, they can be dialed in to improve overall performance, they wear better than drums. If done right they can haul you down 10% to 15% faster. The draw back is the cost of doing it right. You want new or rebuild parts, used parts will just give you more a little more time before you have to replace them, waste of time and money.

LSx 6.0 with BTR Stage IV, Speed Engineering Headers, 4L80e transmission w/3200 Circle-D Stall. 3.73. Posi. Purchased this truck when I was 17. I started the rebuild (or take apart) in 1993. I have drug it around all over the country in pieces. Finally back on the road in 2021. "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far."
