Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I am wanting to install all new wiring into my old truck, I am also wanting to do a LS1 or 5.3L swap with a 4L60E trans, is there a harness that I can buy that bolts right in and works for these trucks. Or do I have to buy the chassis harness separate then do a different engine harness, I want it to be plug and play pretty much If I'm spending the money.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I plan to use a complete kit from Ron Francis Wire Works. They have more options when it comes to the fuse boxes and instead of having it all connected to the fuse block you run the wires up to it to minimize the extra wiring harness that gets built into other companies stuff.
Link: http://www.ronfrancis.com/ The other thing I like is they will customize it to suit your needs and the charge wire to your alt is much larger than stock.

I am going to go with the American Autowire Kit specifically made for our trucks. I had a friend use one and he loved it and also have read excellent reviews on it.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I have the American Auto wire setup in my 65. I used the classic update kit. It is very complete and well thought out. It has the power and available fuses for engine swaps. Plug and play will depend on the engine/trans harness you get for your ls setup. I am just starting the ls swap into the 65 and I dont see any issues with the AAW interface.

From someone who used to build my own wire harnesses, I've since used Ron Francis products almost exclusively.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I ordered from Rebel Wire (made in the USA ) You can actually pick up the phone and talk to the guy that made your harness and will be available for any questions during your install if needed. I ordered direct from Rebel vs mail order because I wanted to talk to someone that knew something. I spent a lot of time researching what to buy and so far I am very happy with the Rebel product. Cost wise they are a lot less then everyone else. Every wire is clearly labeled and the directions are very easy to follow. Do yourself a favor if you haven't ordered your wiring yet call this guy and Im sure you will like what you find out.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I bought a generic unit with xtra long wires to fit my truck. I always seem to have to modify them anyway. I like wiring and dont like doing things someone else does usually.
Having said that I like what American Auto Wire has to offer.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I usually buy a speedway kit and remove any circuits I won't be using to eliminate any extra wires. Pretty simple, clear instructions, wires are labeled like other manufacturers kits.
I incorporate a junction block in the engine compartment somewhat following the examples provided in the tech section of the mad electrical site and I add relays for the headlights. Simple alterations. Last edited by Cohi; 11-07-2018 at 02:41 AM. Reason: Spelling |

I've got the AAW classic update kit and I'm in the process of installing it right now. This is a very nice kit.

I also recently bought AAW kit for my 65. I am about to start installing it. Everything is labelled inside the box and makes it look less daunting.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
My son and I just finished using the AAW Kit for his 1969 stepside. It was a complete kit including the cab wiring, engine and front and rear taillights. Easy and the customer support was awesome. Only thing I would add is get the crimping tools they offer to rent. It makes crimping the connectors easy and a standard crimper will only mess things up. Don't ask how I know. LOL. But, I have nothing bad to say about the company or the product.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
The Psi Conversions kit came with my project. When I start wiring I’ll let you know how theirs is. If anyone has tried it please proceed feedback. Thanks
Well, I'm an idiot. The PSI conversion portion I have is a standalone harness for an LS transplant. This is the PCM programming and bracket kit. I have the AAW kit for the rest of the truck. Last edited by Pontitruck; 11-18-2018 at 09:07 PM. |

I am contemplating a wiring Harness as well. Just doing research online and wondering why no one has mentioned Painless Wiring ?? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
I recommend a Rebel Wire kit, I just finished up my 64 C10 and was highly impressed with the product. When you call rebel you will actually talk to the owner and any questions you may have during the wiring process he is the one that will help you out. Don't wast your time ordering other kits (Painless, ron Francis, etc...) from the big box distributors call Rebel direct you wont be disappointed. Oh forgot to ad that its made in the USA.

Re: Where to buy best wiring harness for 63 c10
Too late for the OP but for anyone else reading. I couldn't bring myself to put out the big cash for an AAW kit. My truck is an LS conversion and I'm using a Dakota Digital cluster that plugs into the OBDII. AAW would be good for someone doing an original restore maybe but I would have ended up butchering it for my truck.
I bought a Speedway 910-64022. It comes with a light switch assm, a dimmer switch, a horn relay on the box, a standard column plug for any gm or aftermarket column with a gm plug and all the other regular stuff. If anything 22 circuits was too big but better than too small. I was able to remove anything I didn't use and have plenty of extra circuits for my LS engine harness. For example the gauge wires are each one long wire easy to pull out of the harness one at a time. I ended up with lots of extra wires to use elsewhere. All wires are labelled. It comes with some big clear poster type sheets. It's divided in the various sub circuits. |

I read a book on automotive DC from the basics to complete systems (didnt take long). I have to tell you it was the best thing I ever did. I actually built a harness from scratch. This one is much easier and the price is right.
