87 Died after switching Tanks

Driving home last night, I noticed my right tank was low and switched over to the LEFT.

As soon as I did this the motor stopped, pulled over and put switch back to RIGHT tank and it started and ran fine.

Went to a servo and filled up and got home ok.

My truck is a 1987 350 TBI Auto stepside.

Is there a easy point to start at and find out why it does not run at all on the LEFT tank.

Tried again today and when on RIGHT tank it turns over and starts as normal, on LEFT tank it just turns and turns but will not fire
