Latest addition to the herd

Thought I would share a pic of the latest addition to my "Herd".

Motor was a 305 V6 in the bed of the truck so it went by by. Good old solid truck.

Thanks to all the responses. I think it's pretty cool. It's got a dealer installed tach and the "flying M" tailgate. Actually the bed and bed wood are in pretty dang good shape. Usual rust at door/fender but the cab is real solid.

No, not a tool box. Actually it's a fuel tank custom made out of diamond plate steel. There's a matching one on the other side. Evidently a professional welded did them, the rear bumper, and the spare tire carrier. I bought this truck as part of a package deal with plans to just flip it and move on, but the more I look at it the more I like it "JUST HOW IT IS".
Heck, my wife even came out and surprised me by saying "that's a cool old truck". My other two in the back yard did not get that.

Always good feeling to have the wife's approval. That's really cool with the fuel tanks. Does it still have the one behind the seat too? Gotta be some kind of auxiliary switch for those tanks? Really cool truck man hate to see you flip it.

I hear ya. The tank behind the seat was removed. I think this was an Arizona Department of Transportation truck and they probably didn't like the tank so close to the smokers. I agree on the tanks, I think they are cool as heck. Look in WIW what's it worth section and you will see the custom rear bumper made from the same material (raw steel diamond plate), it has a recessed license plate with a bulb. I am certain they recessed it to protect it, not cause someone thought it looked cool.
I know what you mean on flipping it. Kinda having second thoughts. Might just keep it and put a motor in it and sell one of my others. This old dude is "Really Growing On Me" the more I look at it. Talk about PATINA. I'm not talking paint that grew thin from sitting in the sun, this dude earned every scratch, scrape, dent, etc. from working every day of his life. I think I am "falling in Love"
I am thinking I might pull it off Craigs and just think about it for a while. "He's not eating" or costing anything to sit there.

Some more pictures are a must Cooperhw. Love to see that rear bumper. Sounds like the truck was a work horse and has a lot of character.

Here are a few I took before I bolted the hood back on. Yeah, this old dude could tell some stories I bet. The front tire mount not only carried the spare but could fold down and function as a tow bar. Common practice back in the day was to tow the truck behind the road grader (blade) and once you got to the area to work you dropped off the truck. When you finished for the day you parked the grader and hopped in the truck for the ride back to the yard.
You know, I like hot rods and I am a hot rod guy but this old dude is begging to just put a motor in it and drive. Ok, maybe a windshield.

That thing is just too cool ,yep put in a motor and drive it and that back bumper looks killer and very tough.

I totally thought the spare tire was mounted on with tie downs. That is really cool. Truck was definitely built for a purpose. That rear bumper is awesome. feel bad for anyone if they rear ended you! What a beast. If you end up keeping it what would you put under the hood?

U r right. The tire on there now (held on with tie down) has no rim so I can push against it to move it around without damaging my truck. I had to take the tire with a rim on it off or the rim would have hit my truck. I push with a tire between em to go back and pull with a chain to go forward. Sucks to do most everything by yourself, but "it don't take all day to count up yer friends either".
I have just got used to doing it myself (repair work that is) except hanging a hood. Too much chance for hood damage.

Thanks. Right now I have 1 68 dually under construction, 1 63 GMC next in line, and this cool old dude. Dang, I wish I was rich, I would have someone build these things for me.
