Before/After door panel

Thought I would post a before and after pic of door panel. I re-textured the original door panel and painted with SEM paint, new chrome trim, door handle, window felt etc from LMC. The "wood" look isn't original but I think it gives it a similar look.

I wanted to see how the speaker covers looked vs the map pockets, I know they are not original to a 77 but I kind of like the factory add on look. That being said I think I'll do the map packets when I officially redo the interior. I do have a set of NOS door panels that I'll utilize when the time comes.

A couple notes on LMC fit and finish. The pull door handles fit and look great, the chrome trim around the wood has nice chrome and fit on the passenger side is good, the drivers side has a much larger gap on one end that I'm not too happy with but I'll live with it. Overall for aftermarket not bad, biggest disappointment is the interior window felt(contour does't match the door panel) and I can't get the die to stick to the door arm rest.

Re: Before/After door panel

Thanks guys, now if I can figure how to get SEM to adhere to the arm rest. I assumed I could die the LMC arm rest, I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if I missed something.

If those arm rest are made of polyurethane than you are not gonna get lucky with adhesion.

Could you go more into detail about Hydrographics?? Looks really good...

Looks great! I'm curious as to how you "re-textured" your door panels.

I'm betting with SEM products as well.

I used Dupli-color paintable undercoating, I would use SEM if it was going to be a long lasting project. We'll see how well SEM adheres to it. I tried a variety of techniques to get away from the splatter look or knock-down ceiling look. I ended up spraying it on and used wadded up wax paper to create some variances in the finish and then used a rolling pin technique to keep it even. I did end up sanding it as well, it looks okay but still looks like knock-down ceiling texture.

Check it out on youtube, it's cool how they do it, you can pick from a variety of wood type finishes.

I found a local place here in Wichita, I had the dash bezel done as well. The biggest challenge was to get it cleared with satin instead of gloss, persistence paid off, the finish came out great. I did have to have the dash bezel redone due to the edges not looking good, overall happy with the look.

I've been searching for a long time for NOS 77 trim pieces with no luck and I didn't care for the aftermarket wood look, this turned out to be a good option.

Re: Before/After door panel

Here's a shot of the after market dash bezel dipped with the same wood grain pattern as the doors.

That looks great, I like the wood-grain Hydrographics idea. Do you have any pics of the installation of it? Did you have to do a base color under it?

Re: Before/After door panel

Here is a link to the shop that did the hydrographics, he has a youtube video that shows the process.

http://www.bcafinishing.com/hydrographics.html

The base coat on mine is white, he had a the same print with a black base coat but it was too dark for what I wanted.
