Front or back?

Just wondering on perspectives regarding laying a (TF) cab on back or front when preparing bottom for paint/undercoat? I know either should be laid over easily with cushion and support under touch points, but seems to me that the firewall and windshield eyebrow would provide better support than the back panels....

I have Laid my cab over on its back on the frame
i had some Thick Corrugated Cardboard (about 4' Square) and had it on it,
But i have heard others using a shipping blanket also without any problems!

I was a little nervous laying mine on it's backside, but after trying to scrape off the old undercoating while laying on my back I had to give it a try.

I used a couple of furniture blankets and a couple of regular blankets in case it rolled and wanted to hit the back edge of the roof.

Once I rolled it back a couple of times I realized it wasn't a problem, never had any issues.


I did the same with rolling to forward on the firewall. I was concerned about the raised edge around the firewall, but with enough blankets I had no issues.


In the above picture I rolled it all the way the the front roof edge, once again, the blankets worked great.

I did however have to place some 6" x 6" blocks of wood under the rocker steps. Properly placed, they kept the front edge of the rocker panels from contacting the floor and folding the front edge of the rockers under while rolling the cab forward especially.

I did back, thought it would roll on the front.

Thanks guys. Looks like either is safe if measures are taken. I'll probably go to the back due to an apparent better weight distribution. Thanks again!

i did the same as stepside jim with blankets on both front and back sides

I've heaard of guys using thick foam and even couch cushions to sit the back of the cab on.

I put mine on a homemade table. Makes it easier to work on, blast and paint.







I also put it on a rolling platform and was able to roll the cab from that on to it's back to the other table.
