Wiper arm and blade questions

I have a set of new reproduction wiper arms and blades on my burb which are just junk-- right out of the box. Would be fine for show only but not for use in a rainstorm. I am sure I can find a set of nice original arms and polish them up but what about blades? I think TRICO RB 12 blades may be correct and they show up on Ebay all the time as NOS, but 2 things, they also fit early Corvettes and sell for Corvette prices. Also the rubber on them are usually pretty dried out. It does rain in WASHINGTON state once in a while, so I would like good wipers. Thanks, Jim

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

You can replace the rubber wiper by buying cheap leftover wipers at the autoparts store and transferring them over to your wiper. Most stores have wipers that didn't sell. You can cut to length.

Good idea. I will be on the search for some good used arms and blades to rework. J

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

Original blades were 13", but the 12" would probably work.

Ive tried to source an original Trico part #, but have been unsuccessful so far.

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

Met a guy at the show in Carlisle, PA that was offering new (Staineless) arms and blades for $40 a pair, he specializes in classic car and truck wiper arms & blades. Not sure if they were NOS, but looked alot like the OE.

Heres his info if your interested:

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

I bought the ones from LMC truck and they are nice. Before that I had a set from ClassicParts, but they were cheap and the passenger side one would randomly fall off when in use, scratching my glass up.

As for the rubber blades, I just go to the auto parts store, buy ones that are too big and cut them down to size, works fine.

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

TRICO model 73 or 51. These were used on many vehicles. See this page

This might also work Amazon.com: Anco 44-02 Universal Adjustable Wiper... Amazon.com: Anco 44-02 Universal Adjustable Wiper...

Hope this helps!

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

I've always just stopped at my local auto parts store and picked up a set of 13" wiper refills. As for the wiper arms themselves I have always just used original arms. I think the springs in them loose a little tension and don't hug the windshield like they should.

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

I also buy longer blades and cut them down to fit. Also you can open up the arm and change the springs with springs from your local hardware store to make them push down better. Works for me.

Re: Wiper arm and blade questions

Does anyone else know if there is an aftermarket arm that has the "J" hook at the end to use the new style clip in wipers? I thought about making some, but figured it would be good to change the arm at the same time...

So you replaced your wiper arm springs? Any pics? Also what springs did you buy and how hard was the swap? Mine are skipping so assume they need new ones
