A couple of questions

First, is any old stock chevy 4 bbl manifold going to bolt on a stock 307 ?

I picked up one in a garage sale over the weekend w/ a Rochester 4 bbl, so I was wondering if I'll even be able to use it.

And also, you guys ever just want to give up working on these trucks? Mine runs good, has a new gas tank, fuel pump, water pump, has had the lower panels below the door replaced, just put in a new hi beam switch, new side marker lenses, etc. I have a power steering set up, and a power brake set up waiting to be installed, and I just about want to quit.

I kept this truck for my son, but he has put very little time in on it. I found myself working on it alone all the time. I found rust over the top of the glass and I'm just about done. I won't be asking my son prior to selling if it comes to that.

I'm pretty discouraged. Don't want a pep talk, just wondering if I should toss it on Craigslist and be done.

First off the intake will work. Any small block chevy intake [well the ones made before 86 anyway] will be a direct bolt on. The 86 and newer with the center bolt heads will too with a little modification.
Now as far as giving up yes I have five of them to build and I never seem to get any where near to working on them. I have a body shop and work on that kind of stuff every day all day long so when I get a chance to rest I don't really want to work doing the same thing I do all the time anyways. That is the downside to having your vocation and your avocation being the same thing. Jim

Yup, same here. In the last couple of months I've cussed the crap out of my Mustang (Fords, right?) but at the end of the day I can't wait to get behind the wheel again.

I have two drivable toys, C10 and 65 Mustang, so when one gives me fits, I take time off from it and drive the other.

Rust above the windshield is a *****, but you cali guys always confuse me, because a small rust hole in a rocker is a reason to scrap a cab, so I'm not sure as to how bad the area above the windshield might be

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, you mentioned it 3 times in 1 post. A lot of us like working on these trucks, and like the challenge. If you aren't enjoying yourself, it's probably best to offload the truck. For your other question, yes, as long as it's not a vortec manifold, it will fit.

Theres days I feel discouraged and overwhelmed because I find things wrong I hadnt noticed before. When that happens I just leave it alone for a couple days. Its frustrating at times but I bought my truck for a reason. Its my dream truck.

Typically what we wish for from our children does not always come true, and frankly it is very frustrating at times. Some children have the desire, and others could care less. The question is whose project is it? It is hard to get someone interested in something, especially if they do not see what's in it for them. Even then for them to have the vision to see the finish line, usually results in projects that never get done. Sell the truck, take the money and consider this a life lesson. In 20 years when he asks what ever happened to that truck, maybe this is an opportunity to reconnect.

If your burned out and it sounds like you are, probably the best advice I've heard.

Thanks for the replies. Just a few thoughts;

Us Cali guys know rust when it crumbles in the hand when you pull back the windshield rubber on the inside. I had a new windshield put in when I bought the truck 13-15 years ago, apparently not done right.

In 20 years my sons' likely to have teenagers, lol. And I'm likely to be pushing up daisies.

This truck could be a daily driver pretty easily if I could find time to work on it steady for awhile.

I will likely update my membership so I can post it here as well as CL. I want it to go to some young guy that isn't afraid to dig in and finish.

I have 6 vehicles and two boats to maintain. I'm tired, lol.

I have felt the same with my 72 and other projects. I'v sold some and kept some. I have regrets both ways. But my 72 after taking 8 months off, (now back at it) will never leave. I did learn my lesson about tring to provide for an inhearitance, I live for me now and if thay are happy with what I leave befind thats great if not o-well.
