That intake will Not fit your 292. The round ports are for a 216,235,261. Heck that might even be for a GMC 302. But, you can get an offy intake for $289 and headers from Tom Langdon at Langdon Stovebolt.com for $189 I believe. A good cam would be something around 240-250 duration. 206 @ .050 .450 lift on a 110 lobe center. But you really would want to do some head work to. As it sits now...you have a torque monster made for torque at 2000 rpm. That head is low flow with small 1.72 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves. Smart thing to have done would be lump ports and a 1.94 intake valve. The same cam I mentioned above would work fine. Also have the head shaved .030 to help keep the compression up. Putting in a larger cam will lower your compression. A new 292 had 8.0.1 compression. You can get a new set of pistons from Summit racing for fairly cheap and they'll bump your compression to 9.5.1. I'd suggest a 4 barrel, 4 barrel offy intake, langdon headers, and an hei..backed by a nice 5 speed that'll make a noticeable difference in power. I have 3 of these engines and have experimented with them all. If you put in a new cam I'd do one like or similar to this one.

Ok so thanks for the input on the intake. Anyhow Seeing as I still am going to have to put a cam in regardless, I'd still like to have a few more options. Like I said I want a bit more performance. As much as I'd like to, I'm not about to pull the head and take it into a shop to rework the whole thing. It's just not in my budget. The cam I have now is ruined so I figure while I have it out I might as well put a "better" one in. Just can't seem to find one.

TJ - Are you sure that cam will work with a 292? The fuel pump eccentric is in the wrong place. I suppose it will fit but you'd need to use an electric fuel pump. Or maybe I am missing something?

That cam will work for a 292 with an electric fuel pump, and one thing I forgot to mention in my previous post was to have comp grind a 292 cam to those specs.

I went with a Crane 260H cam. On the mild side, but lumpier than stock. Not sure if you can still get Crane cams, as they went out of business a couple years ago, but I heard they restructured.
With a new cam. you'll want new lifters, too. If you had a more recent, made-for-L-22 Series L6 intake, like Offy or Clifford, I would suggest the Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM 4 barrel. Don't feel bad. You're not alone. I have an obsolete ['60s?] Edelbrock SBC intake that's less a performance improvement than a later GM stock intake, and an Offenhauser BBC intake that has rectangular ports, unlike the small oval [or peanut?] ports on the 454 [c.'78] that was on my '67 K/10 Suburban. Each one I paid $50 for at swapmeets, only to find I couldn't use 'em. Hang it on your shop wall or ceiling as a trophy.

Love the the 6 have original 292 in my 66burb. had a 68 panel truck with a stock 250 and long tube headers and offy intake and 390 holley. ran really well

Turboed 292's on 8 pounds of boost have made a good 400+ pound feet of torque. That's plenty considering people put boring 350's in those burbs your talking about and a 290/350 only has about 330 torque. I've said this ever so many times...Never take advice from V8 guys about 6 cylinders...all they're gonna say is the same thing over and over even though they haven't done it for themselves.
