Looking for suggestions on replacing/repairing the drive shaft in my '64 c10. Its a 2 piece shaft & the front shaft broke right where it goes into the carrier bearing. Just trying to see what others have done for replacements. I'd like to keep the price low as low as possible on this, but also to want to go too cheap & have it brake again.

Is there a local drive shaft specialist in your area? I usually find it easier and cheaper to work with a local drive line shop in my area for these types of things.

I have some used two piece shafts in good condition.

Would you be able to check the length of them? I'm looking for a font section that's 27 inches weld to weld. Total length is 68 inches yoke to yoke.

I agree on staying local, I never had to do driveshaft work before and was shocked at just how inexpensive it was to have them shorten, balance, paint and install new U-joints.

The shafts I have are longer, you could have one cut down

Probably should determine whether you have the light duty driveshaft or the heavy duty driveshaft. The light duty driveshaft will have the carrier bearing hanging from the top of the trailing arm crossmember. The heavy duty driveshaft will have the carrier bearing sitting on a bracket on the bottom of the trailing arm crossmember.

Thanks for looking... I think I'll take what I have now into a driveline shop & see what it will cost to fix mine or get a custom built. Hopefully they won't want an arm & a leg for it. Again thank you for the offer!

It broke right behind the weld, before it goes through the carrier bearing.

I didn't know that there was a light & heavy duty shaft for these. Looks like mine is the light duty (carrier bearing was mounted from the top of crossmember). What is the difference in these driveshafts, just different carrier bearings or are the shafts completely different?

The HD carrier bearing is much, much better than the light duty one and the driveshafts are made from larger diameter tubing.
