48 gmc headers with MII and SBC350

Hi guys im working on 48 GMC and am having trouble getting the correct headers. I tried patriot block hugger headers but they came straight off the motor and ended up rite above the frame rail. What is everyone using one these trucks? Any part numbers or photos would be greatly appreciated. The truck also has a power rack and pinion setup as well which plays into the mix. Thanks

I have an original mustang 2 in my 49, the engine sits low & the headers are close to the boxed frame

Thanks for the photos. I talked to speedway and got the measurements from there block huggers and if the measurements are right the collector should be about 2 inch from the side of the block which means they should kind of follow the angle of the block down. I'll know for sure when I get them. I will post if they worked or not and part number. Thanks

Re: 48 gmc headers with MII and SBC350

Just put the headers on my 48 yesterday. They are hooker block huggers, not sure of the part number but I could probably get it this afternoon. The truck has a 1 ton frame which needed the flanges trimmed a little to install the Speedway boxing plates and crossmember.

If all else fails, you can use 87 corvette exhaust manifolds. You will have to eliminate the air tubes and grind the tubes smooth after welding, but they afford a lot of extra room. You can get them powdercoated, or paint them with barbecue black spray pain. Here is a pic of them in my TF truck, but you get the idea of the extra room.

I have an extra set of the corvette manifolds and an extra set of block huggers too

Re: 48 gmc headers with MII and SBC350

Hi guys thanks for all the replies they were most helpful. Sorry it's been so long since I last posted but I got swamped with collision work in the shop. Anyway I used speedway ceramic coated headers part number 930-0101h and they fit and work well. Next step is getting the steering shaft figured out. Looks like I am going to have to put a heim joint in and it should work ok. Thanks again!
