69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
As best I can tell the 69-72 Blazers only had a conventional lock nut holding the spare tire disk...and maybe 73 up had the lever-style nut. The lock nut is what's detailed in the assembly manual. Am I missing something? Which one of the below pics is right? Anyone have the lever on a known original truck? Any insight appreciated.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Here are pics of an oft referenced original 72 that shows all the pieces noted in the assembly manual...no lever.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Pic by lane224 of the 72 Blazer he's parted, which by report was original and fairly complete, shows a lug nut to affix the spare on the bolt. I suspect this is the correct set-up rather than the lever-action nut but I did not confirm with him whether or not the nut was still attached to the bolt or added when he parted the truck. We need more owners of survivor K5's to chime in...

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Lug Nut!!! Of course it's a lug nut. That makes too much sense. Thanks for the pic.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
A little off topic but does anyone have any pictures of how the wheel sits on the mount. Does it rest on top or to the side of it?

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Don't know if this helps answer what you're asking about, but it's the only other view I had on the computer. If you mean relative to the back of the mount, I can take another shot when I get home.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Relative to the back of the mount. If you can grab a picture looking at it from in front of the passenger seat that would be great.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
...it rests on the tire at the top. It's super close, but doesn't touch the rim...(on mine anyway).

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Emailed you larger pictures but still haven't figured the book out so if someone knows how to read it let me in on the secret. If you look at 70-72 blazer part number 3991023 that is the bolt I have in the picture but is under the heading Plate-Bar-Brace Assy-Bracket, Wheel and Tire
If you look under Nut-Retainer-Washer, Wheel Carrier the 55-70 All, Blazer the bolt is 358501 A.R. I don't know what A.R. stands for but the both look like 7/16 x 20 |

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Dwayne....that's awesome. Thanks for the pics. I gotta get one of those books! What about the 1/2-20 lock nut listed a little lower that says 67-70 10 thru 20 and Blazer? Could you look up the lug nut part numbers? I'm just curious if it's the same as the first nut you referenced...if they indeed did put lug nuts on this bolt.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Made a mistake what I thought was Plate-Bar-Brace Assy-Bracket, Wheel and Tire was actually BOLT, Wheel Carrier if you look at the picture again. Also found out what A.R. means "as required." Sent you an email with larger pictures.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Dwayne, what I gather from this is:
1)It was a lock nut and not a lug nut, though it makes sense to me that they would have used the lug nut. 2)You are clearly beach ready. ....thanks for taking time to post those catalogue pics. They are packed with info.

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Heading back to the beach tomorrow and coming home Monday but I just figured out what you were trying to do and I think you are correct. If you look at the very first picture I posted it reads 55-70 358501 if you look at the 3rd picture on the second set of pictures 69-72 blazers is 358501 so I think up to 70 they used a lug nut. Let me know what you think!!

Re: 69-72 Spare tire hardware clarification
Well upon further review, I think I stand corrected. Looks like the green oval indeed shows a part # crossover between the lug nuts and wheel carrier....but it's getting late and I'm toast. Thanks again Dwayne.

Now I need to dig my spare tire carrier out of my parts bin and check the hardware. Still looking for the 4 bolts to mount to the floor. Anybody have OEMs or know what size the bolts are?
