Porterbuilt install help

I am currently mocking up my engine and transmission. It's a SBC with a 700R4. I am running into 2 problems, first my oil pan hits the rack and second how high should the transmission crossmember be in the frame. With my transmission at 5 degrees the mount is almost at the top of the frame. I almost forgot it's a 84 with the extreme front.

The trans is pointing DOWN 5 degrees and the frame rails are level with the ground front to back and side to side?

Yes with the frame laying on the ground I can't get the trans to 5 deg without the engine hitting the rack.

Seems like if you lowered the back of the trans the front of the oil pan would pivot up.

Steeds sells offset bushing to drop you rack down 1/4". You will have to have them machined down to be the same diameter as the bushing holes on the rack. But, it worked for me.

I wish you could post a pic.
Your trans tailshaft should be at -5 degrees (5 degrees down) and the rearend should be at +5 degrees (5 degrees up).
I can't imagine the trans crossmember needs to be at the top of the frame rails.

Also, your trans tail shaft is pointing down to the ground 5*? You running the level 3?

Send me the pics and include some of your motor mounts, oil pan and trans and I will post them up for you.

I just sent you over some photos. Yes I am running the level 3 and if I go above 6-7 degrees the oil pan contacts the rack.

Here is the photo's MURPH sent. The trans crossmember seems fine in this photo but I assume it needs to go up a bit further? Can't really rell whats happening with your R&P and oil pan though.

The rest of your pics ..hopefully someone can chime in here with some more help, maybe even Nate. I have the mild and an LS3 so not seeing your issue. It would seem your engine either needs to be raised or a different oil pan.

I feel that either pan or rack is the problem. I went up to the shop today and I can get the carb mounting surface to 3.5deg and I have just a lil daylight between the rack and oil pan. I wonder if the uninterrupted rack is a little thinner than the rack I have. The motor is a 383 so I don't know if there is a smaller oil pan I can use and it still clear the rack.

The most I could get my transmission angle down was 8-9 degrees without the oil pan hitting the rack. Nate made engine mounts to raise the engine position 1/4" and 1/2".. 1/2" made the trans yolk hit the cab floor, so I used the 1/4". I also bought steeda bushings to drop the rack another 1/4". I dropped the trans crossmember to the bottom of the frame and used a spacer to to make up the difference. Still the best I could do was 6 degrees down.

I'm still working on the drive line issues with Nate

What brand rack and pinion are you using. If I cleared the rack I think I would be ok. It's just frustrating because I am in a crunch to get done. I also wonder if there are any other oil pan options ?

There are 2 different oem oil pans.
You might contact one of the aftermarket oil pan manufacturers and see if they can help.

Should be the unisteer R&P then, that's what I got.

Give Nate a call, he is really good about responding and helping. He would even send you some custom mounts if necessary. I dealt with him a lot and he was great at helping or resolving any issues I had.

I am considering just leaving the pinion at 7 deg and running a double cardan joint drive shaft or putting a washer on the rack to move it forward just a hair.

I spoke with Nate about the above process. He believed that the amount that the rack was going to be moved would not create any noticible geometry issues.
