ATTN: Anyone with bed mount gas tank.

I just got my tank mounted and some of the fuel line plumbed and just noticed that it is going to be impossible to get the rear 2 bed mounting bolts tightened with the bed laying on the frame....
If you have a bed tank how did you get in and tighten these bolts that go where the arrows are in the pic ?.

Re: ATTN: Anyone with bed mount gas tank.

drill some 3/4 holes in the bottom rail to fit a socket up to the bolt and nut

Re: ATTN: Anyone with bed mount gas tank.

I realize i have a K20 with a different frame but i ran into the same problem with my fuel cell from The Fuel Cell Guy. I was climbing over the rear axle and trying everything to reach the bolts and couldn't get my arms into the space far enough to hang on to a nut and washer and get them started, i even tried buying a long T handled rotating ratchet with a spinning T handle from Harbor freight, that didn't help. My fuel cell had a full length flange and i didn't want to drill thru the flange to run a socket inside from the bottom as i felt it may weaken the flanges, i ended up making my rear frame cross brace removable, its still a pita but it works.

Your cross brace looks like this may not be a viable option. I can offer 2 different idea's.

Idea 1) See if you can get in there with an 3/8" drive air ratchet, i was barely able to get one in the space provided but at the time i didn't have enough compressor to apply enough torque, plus i still couldn't hardly get the bolts started.

Idea 2) If you have not already, mark and drill the holes in the bottom rail for the tank, make the holes large enough for clearance of the tank bolts, pull the tank out of the way and weld 4 nuts to the inside of the lower frame rail, then just lift the tank into place and bolt it up. the only draw back is having to remove the tank any time you need to pull the bed but at least once its all done and assembled the need to pull the bed is remote.
