Newbie here introduction and questions

Evening all. Name is Glen. Live in Sycamore Illinois. Just have been obsessed lately with wanting to build an old truck. Not a show truck but a rusty low 1949 - 1953 Chevy 3100 or 3600

Not really a "car" guy but I got the bug and started researching S10 swap outs and really want to attempt it. I was a mechanic in the Army (Light wheel stuff, mostly field repairs) and I build cabinets and furniture but welding, engines, trans, etc will be new to me. Probably be a few year project but I am excited to research and learn along the way.

Couple of questions:

Is a Chevy 3100 and 3600 basically the same except a larger wheel base on the 3600?

For s 10 swap outs what is the ideal year and model S10?

90's regular cab long bed?
90's extended cab long bed?
90's extended cab short bed?

Just curious for those who have done these to know your ideal frame type from what S10.

Anyway thanks for any help and i look forward to learning and eventually sharing my progress along the way.

Thanks,

Glen
