Radiator Question (on the right page this time)

So I accidentally posted this under "Projects and Builds" and figured I'd throw it up on the right page. A couple guys gave some ideas which I'm going to look into, but I like to have options to weigh.

I'm looking into radiator options for my 56 GMC. The truck will be running a SBC 350. I am hoping to just have the stock one boiled out and fixed up. If it needs it, re-cored. Should that be a big enough radiator? I'd like to still be able to use the same radiator mount.

I got one out of a big truck (1.5 ton and larger) that is in good shape. 1" thicker and deeper, bolts up to the small truck core support. I run a shroud and have never had an over heating problem, even with the stock 6 cylinder one. This time you get two photos!

Thanks Orrie! I didn't post this again because I didn't trust your advice btw. I like looking at different ideas and such. I'm going to poke around for one of those bigger radiators and see what I can find.

I got one out of a big truck (1.5 ton and larger) that is in good shape.

I did the same from a larger truck though. Big GMC with Poncho V8. I had to cut the brackets and re-weld them, move the upper hose connection, and remove the soldered on thermal valve. The core is so thick there's no room for a mechanical fan so I run with a 14" electric pusher fan but there's no problem with overheating.

I bought a champion off of ebay, bolts right in and no issues with overheating in the California sun and a 400 small block. I looked around and found one with free shipping

if the gmc radiator is the same as the chevy radiator just buy a replacement from brothers
it will probably cost you less than recoring an old one
if your running an automatic you can buy one with the trans cooler built in

while the 1.5t rad might be a good choice... probably hard to find and may need recoring too

I have a '56 GMC with a Pontiac 455 & TH400 that was getting warm so bought an aluminum unit from Wizard in western NY. Using an electric fan to pull air thru but may need some shrouding as it gets to 200 F while in traffic.
