driveshaft

I want to put the powerglide automatic transmission out of my 66 donor truck (c-20) in my 66 c-10 shortbed. I need to find a driveshaft that will fit. Any ideas? Both trucks have driveshafts in them now. Both trucks are inline 6

Thanks Frank I hope so I am just starting this project so I havent had time to set ze it up. The auto seems longer

If the Powerglide needs rebuilt, I wouldn't waste my money on one. Putting your money into a TH350 would be money better spent IMO. In fact a TH350 may even cost less. A TH350 will make your truck nicer to drive than with a Powerglide.

I think the pg we rebuilt for my dads 55 chevy was about $900, and it still doesn't work right... wish he had gone wit the th350 like he originally planned, or even the standard 3 speed.

I think the 3 speed and pg use the same length drive shaft.

I put a th350 in my long box 63 (2 piece driveshaft) and I used the front driveshaft out of a 3 speed long box.

your short box might have a 1 piece drive shaft?
my 61 short step with a 3 speed manual has a 1 piece driveshaft
however my 64 suburban with a 3 speed manual (same wheelbase) had a 2 piece, and it also had the light duty center bearing.

I would do some measuring, and check out the yoke , pg compared to the manual, if they are different , that might be the only piece you need to change.

they will all hook up to a inline 6. I would actually look at a 700r4 will will give you better over all performance. look at what you need from a trans. what is the rear end ratio that you have now. where are you going to be driving it. the o/drive would be advantages if you are going to use the highway at all.
if you are going to rebuild, you may as well spend it on the newest and most efficient for your truck that doesn't require a computer.

Yes. The 230/250 and 292 I6 engines have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as all small blocks, all big blocks and 90 degree V6's.

I thought about recommending the 700R4, but those are a little spendy to have built right and then you have to figure out how to mount and correctly adjust the TV cable. To my knowledge no one makes a TV cable/bracket kit for the I6 unless you are running a 4 barrel carb.

T5 5 speed is a common 6 cylinder swap and I believe you need to have you driveshaft shortened for that. I'd do the auto, or a t5. Personally I like shifting my own gears so I picked a tko600 for my 292 build.
