1974 automatic, so it's an NP203 full time four wheel drive
Still, I don't recall standard hubcaps fitting over the flange, and I worked for a dealer in 1975 ???

Wow! I thought the '77 I just picked up was low miles at 23,000. Judging by the pictures that truck never got abused as it's still quite straight.
Truckfan, I'm with you I like finding the old low miles fire trucks. Our local vfd has an '84 K20 with 28,000 on it and just donated a '79 C70 with just shy of 30,000 to another department. |

Must be easier on them back in the flatlands ...
Out here in the west, the fire truck pickups get pretty beat up. 30 or 40K miles is totally wore out. Also, we drive a lot farther to fires sometimes.

Re: 1974 K20 4X4 7750 miles CL
Mine's plenty beat up but rust free other than bed floor and dosen't have a lot of miles on it. The thing that amazed me most is the front end is perfect and I don't remember it having a grille guard on it. Truthfully though our brush units only really get run hard for a few weeks in the spring and again in the fall, both for field or equipment fires at harvest time.

Re: 1974 K20 4X4 7750 miles CL
All I can say is for anyone looking to buy an old brush truck, be aware of the possibility of needing serious suspension or steering (or transmission?) repairs in spite of the low mileage. Hauling several thousand pounds of water, pump, and tools over extremely rough ground under emergency conditions is tough.
We had a 1970 one-ton Power Wagon for a while. That thing was a beast in the woods (much better in most ways than modern trucks), okay on gravel roads, but an absolute terror on the highway because of the loose steering. The bigger C50/C60 low mile fire trucks are probably near perfect because they don't get taken off road so much.
