65 c20 wont idle down sometimes

First time posting here. I've had this truck for about a year and its ran pretty good. All of the sudden in the morning the idle won't return to its normal idle. I stop at the gym on my way to work, about an hour and half later I start it back up and it's fine (usually). After work it is fine too. I live in Sacramento where it's a little cool in the mornin and blazing hot most days.
It's a 65 c20 with a 350 from 1973, and a 4 speed granny gear. It's a points distributor, carter afb w/electric choke, edelbrock performer intake. Cam seems to be near stock.
Timing is good, it hasn't moved from where it's been. I've pulled off and stuck back on all vacuum hoses with no changes, I've even changed the vacuum hoses; there are only a couple. I've sprayed a little water all around the carb with no change in idle. I've thoroughly cleaned all the linkages on the throttle as well as the choke. It does it with or without an air cleaner on, and it's a new air cleaner.
I'm running out of ideas. Is my choke just bad? I didn't want to replace it and the problem persist. Any idea is appreciated. It's unfortunate that I can only test it once per day. I have a small window in the morning to work with.

this will help you but its really only if you see my point ... i live here in California too and the need for a choke is really not here ... so that being said at least to eliminate the choke being the problem there are 3 screws on the side of your choke loosen them up and turn the choke till the butterfly in the carb oppens all the way up and is tight as in it wont move closed then tighten up the screws again this makes the choke stay open and not function it does not hurt the carb in anyway ... do this and take it out again if it fixes the problem then most likely its just gonna be a choke adjustment . but again you really dont need the choke i never use them here .. hope this helps ... Happy Truckin

Wolfman,
Thanks. That will help me narrow it down. when I lived in SoCal I never worried about choke either. But up here in sac it drops into the 20s sometimes during the cold months.
