has my truck been lowered?
Not sure what the stock springs look like but it would seem from the stance that the front has been lowered. I need to get shocks for it as it's bouncy as all get out and wondering if I order stock type shocks if I'm going to run in to issues.. Here's a few pics I've gathered.

Re: has my truck been lowered?
You are going to want new coils also. They look like they have been heated with a torch (probably the worst way to lower it. Those center coils should not be touching. Those front bump stops look vary close to bottoming out. You can actually see where they have made contact. I would look on the static drooped thread and find a truck that you like the height of and find out how much it is lowered and then go from there unless you want it stock height and then you can just get all the stock stuff.

Re: has my truck been lowered?
I run 235/75r15s also....rear looks stock to me. Tire size can drastically alter the stance of a truck, reason I asked what size tire. Fronts have definitely been altered.
Pics of our trucks side by side.....stance looks pretty close in the rear and mine is factory height on a 235/75r15

Anyone got suggestion for shocks? SF streets are considerably rougher than a country road. Lot's of potholes!

Re: has my truck been lowered?
That looks like a torch-lowering-job for sure. My 63 that was the same way and, while it had a sweet stance, it rode like crap. New front springs alone made a vast improvement in the ride and handling and 2.5 " drop spindles kept the stance. The rear will soon get air-ride.
My old vs new springs:

question is because i have some brand new aftermarket 2" drop front coils that i never used from summit that i threw on once to check ride height and because they were so new it really didn't drop 2". more around stock height, maybe a tad lower. but i like my things looooow. so i got airbags. I could part with them for a decent price. they collect dust in my garage. |

Re: has my truck been lowered?
some would advise not to cut springs. in my opinion heated springs are the worse way to go, unsafe, horrible ride, but cutting springs is a better choice, esp if your cutting ones that are closer to the correct "spring ratio" or what have you...that is what i was going to do, cut my drop springs until i achieved the perfect stance, and as they wear in they will settle and drop a bit more id imagine.
also take a look at your bumpstops..the factory ones are very high, you might be feeling some bottoming out as well. you can get rid of those stock ones and add aftermarket smaller ones.. |
