Crew cab frame help

Its been awhile, but i love this board. People are so willing to help! That being said, i come asking for help and i have done some searches with no luck. I want to build a crew cab short bed truck with half ton suspension. I have the following:

1985 C10 long bed full chassis.

1984 gmc c30 3+3 dually cab/chassis.

I really want to use the half ton chassis and just stretch it. I realize most people use the 1 ton and shorten it due to strength ect. I am wondering if the frame shape is the same between the two. Do I just have to add to the frame rail under the cab. I can weld ect and have shortened frames but never extended one.

If you want to keep the 1/2 ton chassis it should be pretty easy to stretch the frame in the middle and splice back together, as long as you are handy with a welder and clamps, it should be a pretty easy deal. Just remember, that if you aren't a good fabber/ welder, you will end up having two splices in the 1/2 ton frame, vs. just one splice by chopping the crew frame to a short bed.

Given the aim of your project I would stretch and brace the short box frame if you have the tools and capability. My $0.02

Swapped the one ton front suspension for 1/2 ton suspension. Very easy Truly a bolt in deal and done lots. Stripped the dually rear end and getting ready to cut down the frame. The tape lines are a reference i will z cut, fishplate, and box it. I have an awesome certified welder in the family with a huge miller welder so no worries about that. Just thought i would share some progress on my crew cab half ton short bed 2wd build. AKA CCSB

Got the box put on. The rear axle is just rolled under there so when i mount it i can make sure its centered well. Ill drill some holes use the half ton hangers and bolt them in sometime next week. After that mount the engine/5 speed and measure for driveshaft.

Thank you. I want all half ton suspension. I know the 1 ton springs are aproximately 5" longer so would have had to remove and remount the 1 ton hangers anyway. This way i kept all the 1 ton stuff together and sold it complete with the dually rear axle as well as kept all the stock half ton stuff so no mixing and matching of parts (even though it probably would have been fine.

Must have done it right because all the bed holes lined up great. Wheel appears centered as well.

This is a nice build up. Only I would have kept the 1 ton suspension and gooseneck hitch. But I move our farm equipment around a bit! Had no idea the 1/2 ton parts would bolt to the 1 ton frame so easily. Good to know.

How much did you cut off the rear of the frame? How far did you move the crossmember forward? I've read most frames have holes for it but mine doesnt?

3.5 inches off the back works perfect I think. I didn't move the rear crossmember at all yet I will take a look to be sure I don't need to. Keep you informed.
