Need help please..totally lost on from disc conversion

Hey guys..

Need your help again. I'm getting different information on my front disk brake conversion for my 68' and need to clarify my next step. Here's what I have done so far:

Installed rotors and calipers with 72' lowering spindles.

Now I'm stuck on the following:

Do I need to get 72' outer tie rods? Or can I use my original 68? Because I got new tie rods for a 72' and they were larger and didn't screw into housing

Also my brake lines don't bolt up to the hard line? I saw that ece website has a line conversion kit and not sure if I'm suppose to get those?

Also I don't know if I'm suppose to get a mastery cylinder or power boost and what are proportion valves?

I'm looking for the most cost effective route
Thanks guys!

Re: Need help please..totally lost on from disc conversion

You will need 1971-72 everything, ball joints, tie rod, inner and outer tie rod ends, center link, end link and pitman arm, you are better off buying it all from a parts truck assembled.
You will need a 1971-72 master cylinder, booster, bracketry, and pushrod assembly.
1971 brake lines front and rear.

Can I not use the 68 tie rod on 72 spindle? It looks like it fits fine but just a little smaller?

Re: Need help please..totally lost on from disc conversion

your best off just changing out the whole steering rack. its just easier and youll be able to find replacement parts alot easier.
as for the lines, you can either do a converion kit or get the 71-72 brake hard lines and soft lines ( like i did) when you do this you will have to use a 71-72 master cylinder and if changing to a brake booster you ll need the rod that goes to the pedal as well. i know it sounds like alot but if you can find a doner 71-72, its not that bad.
also if you do change to the 71 72 hard lines you ll have to relocate the mounting tab where the hard and soft lines meet.

Im pretty sure 71 an 72s are different than 67-70 , and there is a conversion tie rod end to use 71 and 72 spindles with a later centerlink , call cpp 714-522-2000 , they will get you what you need , should not be very expensive for tie rod ends

Lets take a second to address the actual problem...

Where did you get your "lowering spindles" from. If they are indeed for a 71/72 truck, then 71/72 outer tie rod ends should work. *IF* they are a "kit" that's meant to convert a 67-70 to disc brakes, those kits typically use the 67-70 ball joints and tie rod ends unless you specifically ask for 71/72 drop spindles. Another possibility is you were given the wrong tie rod ends from the parts store... or you bought cheap knock off spindles and the holes were done wrong.

What you need to do is actually get on the phone, talk to whomever you ordered your kit from, and ask them what's up.

To swap a 71/72 spindle on a 67-70 truck you need 71/72 upper and lower ball joints, 71/72 outer tie rod ends, and 71/72 brake hoses... that's it. Then depending on power/non power, you need the correct 71/72 M/C/Booster and rod.

This is partially true. ^^^
Everything must match the spindle so 71-72 outer tie rods is correct.
The problem is they won't connect directly to the. 67-70 centerlink and 67-70 inner tie rod.
71-72 tie rods are 11/16" diameter and 67-70 tie rods are 5/8" diameter.

Re: Need help please..totally lost on from disc conversion

Thanks you guys. I called cpp and they do have the conversion sleeve for the tie rod. Now I just have to figure out where to find a good deal on the booster and the master cylinder. Any recommendations?
