Re: 66 C20 327, green original engine paint

Using the sample paint on the flywheel is your most accurate match to '66 327 green, other parts of the engine has been exposed to high heat, weathering and bleaching out( due to engine degreasers etc). IMO, Ford green is the closest match for the 292 and 327 in a ready to use rattle can. But if found someone who can match color with high temp paint, great, go for it. Member Sodly has a super low mileage 327, which appears to be closer to Ford Green than the lighter Alpine Green ( aka Detroit Diesel Green). http://www.ebay.com/itm/VHT-Paint-Hi...693832&vxp=mtr

Re: 66 C20 327, green original engine paint

The flywheel is the part I left with them to match. They are going to put the enamel in some spray cans. I've heard the ford green is the closest but I figured since I have the parts I might as well get EXACT matched up

Re: 66 C20 327, green original engine paint

Could you post a picture of the front end of each head after they are grease removed? I think I can just see it's there but the drivers side head could have like a "YH" in yellow grease pencil on the front of it indicating 327 turbo 400. Interestingly it may have something as Y_ as it also has the A.I.R. calif emission but no code appears to have ever been assigned in the GM books for that one. Cool to put that back on there when you have it all painted up again! Also were you able to see the codes on the firewall with assembly line grease pencil for the options like the turbo 400 tranny? My 327 turbo 400 donor parts truck had M49AG written just to the right of center upper firewall and before the drivers side washer hose cowl hole. Sometimes those marking are very faint but still readable in the right light.

Re: 66 C20 327, green original engine paint

Nice. Appears one of the line guys added his own version of YEAH too to the lower sides of the block.

This was my St. Louis built truck with 327 engine and PG markings as were on the heads. My 327 TH block was junk when I tore it down to rebuild.

I was wondering what those letters between the YH were for haha. Sorry to hear the block wasn't any good.

Digging this back up, but I'm not optimistic considering the thread never got updated. Was curious what paint color/match ended up being used?

I ended up having a local paint shop match my original flywheel color.

That's awesome! I went with Duplicolor alpine green for one of my builds. Mine seems just a tad lighter.

That looks so good! I love seeing these small blocks in the factory colors other than the most popular engine orange.

Thanks for the reply! It looks great. Do you have a paint code or anything showing what was used to achieve that color?

Just noticed those heads on the freshly painted engine aren't the original cylinder heads as shown in the "before" photos. Those are the hi-perf double hump heads

Re: 66 C20 327, green original engine paint

Thanks guys! Yeah wasn't quite happy with the numbers when I put all the stock parts together so ended up going double hump heads, corvette intake manifold, roller rockers and roller lifters

Since it was a custom paint mix I think it's just the company's codes on it, not a general code that would work anywhere.

I was going to paint my 292 Alpine Green but after seeing this I am going to have to do some playing with Ford Green to compare.

Dang it! Getting ready to paint mine soon & have been researching for the correct shade of green. I was about to just pull the trigger on late 60's Buick green, until I saw this thread about yours. Would love to duplicate what you have color-wise. There's another thread on factory correct restorations where the 327 engine color has been discussed, & I'm sure many folks that want originality could benefit greatly from your engine color.
