85 Bench Seat to narrow
I was wondering why my a$$ hurt when driving my truck for more than 30 min. Today I noticed that the seat is about 7 inches away from the inner door panel and my cheek is almost hanging over. If I adjust my rear to the right so it's comfortable the center of the steering wheel is at my left arm pit.
Is there a way to move the bench seat so this don't happen? Everything is still stock with the bench seat. Thanks |

Sorry but when you said cheek, I lost it lmao. Is it the original seat? Check your mounting brackets and see how it looks underneath.

Re: 85 Bench Seat to narrow
I just measured my '87 and it kinda depends on how you measure:
The rear of the seat cushion has a scallop to clear the seat belt retractor. It's about 6 inches from there to the door panel proper; the seat is closer if you measure to the armrest (only an inch or two) and as you move forward. Sounds like the seat might not be too narrow; sounds like your cheek might be too big. K

Re: 85 Bench Seat to narrow
I guess the seat is a little loose by the edge, but you can see how I have to sit in the 3rd shot to be comfortable. I weigh 190 lbs

Re: 85 Bench Seat to narrow
This is honestly one of the reasons I went to buckets for. I hate the fact that sitting on the bench I had to sit all cock eyed and not center with the wheel.

You have to admit: he backed right into it.

(lol) Seriously though - that looks like design intent. That may just be the way it is. I could suggest trying to stuff additional foam up in there, or adding a piece of plywood under the cover that cantilevers out (or even cutting the seat frame and moving the end closer to the door) but it would all be "invention" at this point.
