Gas tank install help
I have a 72 k5 blazer project I bought recently. It came with an aftermarket gas tank, sending unit, and straps. The sending unit is installed but the tank is not. From the threads I've read looks like I will need an original filler neck off of a gas tank. Has anyone installed this tank on their blazer and point me in the right direction?

Welcome to the board.... 1. you need to be a "Premium" member to post a "Want to buy". If you click on the word "Subscribe" in the menu bar above it will explain the subscription options..... 2. I will also move this to the Blazers and Jimmys message board, you accidently posted it in the Suburbans and Panels message board. LockDoc

Re: Gas tank install help
Does your tank mount flush to the bottom of the frame rails? Im going to relocate the tank forward as finding a new filler neck is proving to be a challenge. also where the current mounting holes are in the frame don't allow for the tank to sit flush against the frame rails, the top of the tank hits the body.

Re: Gas tank install help
You likely need a set of the metal spacers that mount sandwiched between the tank and the lower frame rail. Also I just looked at my rolling chassis, if you move the tank forward you will have to modify both the fuel and vapor lines to match the new position. You can't go too far or you would be in to the Rear brake line bracket on the frame. No idea if there is any issues with the underside of the body by relocating because I don't have my body on my frame currently. i attached 2 pictures of the rh side of my tank one far out and one zoomed in. You can see it is Frame / Metal Spacer / Rubber squeak gasket / Tank. Good luck with whatever you do.

Re: Gas tank install help
This is what those factory rubber squeak gaskets look like. Sorry, I can't find a picture of the spacers not installed. I guess I never took one.

Re: Gas tank install help
I wasn't real happy with the 'J' hooks, that came with the tank, might be better to use OEM

Re: Gas tank install help
If you're using those factory metal spacers and the top of the tank is still hitting the underside kf the body, what condition are your body mounts in?

Re: Gas tank install help
the truck only came with the tank no mounting hardware, going to finagle some home depot hardware and run new lines. also have to wire the sending unit.
