Correct rear pinion seal Dana 60????

So my pinion seal on my 78 K20 dana 60 is leaking. The guy at Napa gave me a seal part# 21955. he didn't seem to sure of himself when he sold it to me. can someone confirm this is the right seal. I don't want to rip out the old one and not have the correct one to put in. thanks

Are you talking about the front or rear differential? If its the rear, I would have thought it had a 14 bolt in it..

You're right, but that is still very strange.. I'm almost certain that is the incorrect pinion seal. I believe that is for the 14 bolt not the Dana 60. The Dana 60 front and rear share the same pinion seal which is TIMKEN 9316 part number.

Personally I have seen a lot of 14 bolt and 12 bolt in these trucks and really don't remember seeing the dana 60, but that doesn't say a lot. As for which is better, I would list the 14 bolt, and the Dana 60 close in second and 12 behind them both.. The 14 bolt FF were used for so many years, they are extremely cheap and parts are easy to find.

The Dana seal is #42449 but I bet they are going to cross-reference it to a 9316 number.
