My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I bought a 69 GMC Custom short wide a few weeks ago off a farm in north Colorado. I've fixed the unsafe front suspension and steering with a new right lower control arm, right lower ball joint and a new idler arm. Had the alignment done and she drives great now. Fixed a horrible transmission leak and oil leak too.

My question is, is it because it's a GMC no one wants to buy it? I think if it were a 69 C10 Chevy short wide with power steering, power disc brakes, TH350 and a V8 it would have sold by now? My asking price is basically what I have in to it.

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I think there is a negative bias towards the GMCs, even more so for the 6 lug trucks (67-70). Is it on the for sale board?

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I think it's because your in the weird "no mans land" price category. While I feel your truck is worth what you're asking, it's going to take the right buyer to realize that.

Forum Listing for anyone interested:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...ort-bed&cat=12

There are nice driver, restored shortbeds in my area going for 11-12K, here's one I quickly found:

http://columbia.craigslist.org/cto/5278849742.html

While the truck is clean, that old repaint looks kinda bad. It doesn't have the cool patina an original paint job would have that everyone wants, if I bought it I would want to repaint it, and paint is $$$. The bumpers are bent up. It's at stock height. Trim is missing. It doesn't have A/C.

If it had new (or straight) bumpers, was lowered, and had all the trim, I think it would sell quicker. Maybe even pay a professional detailer $100-150 to try to bring the paint back to life.

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

It's a very nice truck and a 5-lug shortbed 4x2 will always be desirable

A GMC aficionado might pay your price.

My opinion, it's kind of a feathered fish. It's neither an original / patina truck, nor a restored or custom truck.

It looks like you are trying to sell it based on originality, but hard to say it's unmolested when it's had a non-original / non-factory respray and an engine swap to a different displacement

Not trying to criticize, I like the truck a lot. Just giving you my .02

GLWS!!

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I also am not trying to criticize.
But just because you have X amount into it and are trying to sell it for that, doesn't mean that is what someone will pay for it.
I do agree with you, in that if it were a Chevy it would sell better.
I also agree with Mapearso in that "It looks like you are trying to sell it based on originality, but hard to say it's unmolested when it's had a non-original / non-factory respray and an engine swap"
And regardless of whether it has rust holes that are a pin-hole or a 7 nickel sized holes... it means it will need rockers replaced. So, that is a starting over type phrase with another repaint as you stated in your add as being a good restoration.
But all this may play a roll in it as well and in what someone wants to pay for a starting point of a rebuild. So the statement of "no mans land" price as stated by 67ChevyRedneck is pretty accurate.
This level of truck come up pretty regularly in the Colorado/New Mexico area, so you don't have a "hard to find" vehicle. There are trucks to be found in your area still, for probably what you paid for or less for similar quality.
Good luck with the sale.

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

Different strokes for different folks, but I like the GMC trucks better than the C10s. You will see C10s in just about any car show you attend, but GMCs are few and far between. And yes, I like the 4-eyed nose and slanted hoods. That's just me...

Remember, you asked...as far as pricing your truck, the guys are right. I see really nice trucks here in Tennessee selling in the $8K range. A few years ago we bought a '70 GMC Sierra Grande short bed in about the same condition as your truck for $2500. We drove it over 300 miles home with no problems.

I would say that your truck is worth more because we got a screaming deal. Being a California truck I would say that adds somewhat to the value of your truck.

One more thing... there are a LOT of project trucks out there now that winter is coming. A lot of sellers usually means a buyers market, so people in the market for one of our trucks can be picky.

Good luck with the sale.

x2 on NoNeck's response.

Very neat truck, and I'd be happy to give it a home, but I need to stay married....

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

It's a decent truck, but still a driving project needing bodywork etc. I'd say your price a top dollar for it & if you list it auction style you may get it from somebody back east. For me it's closer to a $5g truck in my area at least.

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I had rather have a GMC, that is all dad used to buy his best friend owned the GMC store here in town and he traded every 6 months for a long time. they would have 50,000 farm truck miles and be wiped out. I have 5 project trucks and only one GMC and wished they were all GMC really cause like said above you can't swing a cat without hitting a C-10 but GMC's are a different story. As far as value of your truck someone will want it I hope you get your price. With the pin holes in the rockers you might as well say it needs rockers cause we all know by the time you see it it is already bad cause they rust inside out. a decent looking truck that needs a paint job is really no better than a butt ugly one needing a paint job. Of course I can say that cause I'm the sheriff at my local paint jail[ body shop owner other wise]. Being in the car business I know all about not getting what you need out of a truck but someone will want that truck Good luck and keep the faith it will sell.

I like the GMC as much as the 67-68 chevy or the 71-72 model. I agree it may not be worth as much as you have into it but hard telling from pictures.

It has more to do with only being for sale for a week than it has to do with being a GMC.

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

I personally prefer GMC over Chevy trucks any day. I think the front end is a much cleaner look, especially compared to the 69-72 C10s. I don't plan on selling mine, so it doesn't matter to me that they may be less desirable.

I like this ↓ front end

Re: My 1st GMC short wide and maybe my last.

Get aggressive with selling it. Do a google search on free classifieds, and put it on everything that applies. For example "National Dragster" gets a lot of views for free.

Re-word your ad. Get away from apologizing about defects, and emphasize the strong points.

>"Solid straight clean original sheet metal"
>"Roadworthy, Drive it home"
>"Automatic"
>"Power Steering"
>"Power Disc Brakes"
>"Original Short Wheelbase"
>"Black Interior"
>"Drive it like it is, or let it be the perfect start to Your own project"

SEMA was here in Vegas this week. You could have sold it without advertising. I've had people offering to buy mine, and leaving notes.

That's a decent truck and I think you're pretty close on price, just think you need to give it a little more time like Tim said. Also I would repeat what jhwkns said and get busy listing it on different sites. I'd stay clear of evilbay for now, try to deal locally, but get the word out.

Just my $0.02

If you bought it to flip, I hope you didn't pay too much to allow wiggle room. The more "keywords" you use the more eyeballs will find it

Try craigslist, ebay, local facebook- I personally would detail the truck and maybe do a DIY bedliner.

Thanks for all the input guys. The truck is for sale here on the board, locally using Craigslist, on EBay with the Auction ending tomorrow and on Collector Car Nation/Racejunk.

Ran the engine casting # last night for a potential buyer # is 3970014 which is a 1970-76 350ci V8.

I would not be disappointed about your truck, it's hard to find the GMC trucks around here. I kinda was looking for one a while back cause I have an 09 GMC. Anyway u don't see them much so kinda rare as I see it. It will sell no doubt.

Very Nice, Tex! And here's another take on GMC.

I think this is the same argument that first gen Camaro and Firebird owners have. They were both built on the same assembly line, yet Camaro's typically bring bigger $$'s. I own a 69 Camaro, but would love to have a 69 Firebird 400 setting beside it. When I attend car shows, lot's of Camaro's and not so many Firebirds. Unfortunately the market has spoken and Camaro's just cost more. Which opens up opportunities for less expensive Firebirds.

But as far as the differences between a C10 and a C1500 really comes down to the grill and badging.

I guess it just depends on if you want to run with the heard, or soar with the Eagles.

I'm soaring with the
