should I buy the whole bed

I went to a local scrapyard looking for a door for my 68. I found one for $85.00. The truck it came off is a 70 short stepper. my left fender is rusted. the 70 has a better fender, i can get the whole bed for $250.00. I'm trying to decide if I should just get the whole bed or fix my fender. the bed is straight, of course the tailgate is rusted but other than that it's in just as good of shape as mine. thoughts?

Re: should I buy the whole bed

I think you should ask yourself, why do you need the whole bed? Is the rest of your bed crap? Do you have space for the bed? Do you have money for the bed? The only time I pick up extra parts is if I'm planning to flip them, or planning to modify something.

If you have the cash and the space, why not get it?

A 70 fender won't fit correctly on your 68 anyway so get the bed if you want.

Pics, we need pics to help you figure it out. As far as the fenders it is the front or rear you are speaking of?

Re: should I buy the whole bed

It is my understanding the beds will fit as long as you interchange with factory length. Now 67-68 front clips only interchange with each other because they bolt up differently, you will have to use the corresponding core support.

Re: should I buy the whole bed

I think he was talking about needing a rear fender for his stepside bed.

Yes I was talking about needing a rear fender for the bed. I looked at the bed again and decided to pass on it.

I don't suppose that scrapyard had a decent fleetside bed did it? I'm pretty close and need a new floor for mine.
