Carpet

I want to get some carpet for my 72 but I am torn between ACC and Trimparts. What does anyone recommend? Is either UV protected? I don't want fading or discoloration in a year or two. ACC has a think padding that can be installed. Seems nicer for sound and durability.

I have used ACC in my cars and trucks. The quality is good. The Blazer carpet kit fit very well in the front. Some minor trimming in the rear. I'm not sure about fading or discoloration since most of my vehicle are garaged.

I don't know. You would have to call. My Nova has had ACC for about 4 years with no fading or discoloration.

So I called ACC and Trimparts and ACC told me they have no UV protection. I told them I was concerned about fading and the response was "well not at least for a couple of years". Needless to say that's concerning considering I don't want to replace my carpet in two years due to color change especially if you get stripes or some other weird issues related to how the sun sits on the vehicle.
Trim parts was much better in their response. Not only did the tell me it has a UV treatment they told me several employees have black carpet in their convertibles and have had no color change. They said the only time they have ever had a color change was a red carpet about 6 or 7 years ago. They assured me that black was a color that will last. I know there is no sure way to protect color from the sun but at least the UV protection is there for insurance.
Another question I asked is who makes their carpet. The rep at Trim Parts told me their carpet is manufactured in house and ACC is a completely separate company. I have read on other posts people thought ACC produces their carpet. This is not true. Just wanted to clear that confusion up if anyone is wondering.

I am still considering ACC as I do garage my blazer and I like the mass backing offered by ACC. Summit sells trim parts carpet for 308.97 and Rock Auto has ACC with the mass backing for 363.41 with shipping. I think it comes down to how much sun it will see and I know mine wont see much. Trim Parts is the only carpet licensed by GM.

I went without the mass backing. The front section comes with the factory style jute padding. ACC carpet has always fit very well in every vehicle I have used it in. My cars and trucks do spend a fair amount of time outside and I haven't noticed. ACC also stands up well to heavy use.

Do you think the backing would be a good option or not needed? I do prefer a quite interior and my truck is loud right now with no carpet.

I would cover the floor with a sound deadening material. The product I use is called "Peel&Seal" and is a roofing material. It is almost identical to Dynamat, but a fraction of the cost. I've used it on all my builds and I can't recommend it enough. I will be putting it on my Blazer.
The padding that comes with carpeting from ACC will feel nice, but will hold moisture, and as you know Blazers leak like a sieve. I would put the carpet directly over the Peel&Seal.

Hmm I may have to just get trim parts then and go with the peak and seal. Where do you get the peak and seal? Hardware store or online?

I run everything pretty much how the factory let it go. The noise in mine isn't much different with or without carpet. I undercoat the floors in all my vehicles so if the carpet does get wet moisture isn't an issue.

Yup, that's it !! It's 100 square feet, so one roll will be more than enough to do a complete vehicle. Put it inside the doors too.

I haven't ordered either yet I just bought a set of new foam for the front buckets and I'm trying to source some white door panels. I am going back to the highlander interior so that will be another 1100. Ill probably get the carpet pretty soon though. Ill update as soon as I get it but I'm thinking trim parts just because of the UV treatment.

I have had an ACC carpet kit in my Blazer for many years (custom sandalwood color) and have not seen any fading yet. Fit and quality is very good. If you are concerne with UV protection, you could just treat it with one of the many off the shelf UV protectants.

I ordered the ACC from rock auto. About 363 with shipping and mass backing. No one had it that cheap. Summit racing wanted 713 for it and so does ACC.

I got my ACC Med Blue carpet from Ebay for $280 shipped. Looks great, getting my Jimmy back together hopefully in the next 3 weeks or so. The ACC carpet looks just like the original that I took out minus really faded. Also ordered the matching floor mats.

I was advised by people I trust to go with ACC because of fit. Unfortunately this was after I'd had a TrimParts set laid out (de-wrinkling) in my basement for a couple of months. Indeed, I was unhappy with the fit...but the customer service at TrimParts was fantastic. At their suggestion, I made a pattern and they did a custom cut for me which was perfect. They even turned it around in 3 days because at the time we were scrambling for a show deadline.
