1970 c-10 front disc conversion question "again"

fellas, I apologize for bringing this up again but my searches didn't answer my questions so help a old fella out ok ?
heres what I have-
1970 c-10 with 6 lug drum front brakes
I want to keep 6 lug rims and stock height spindles.
I don't want to change anymore than absolutely necessary so to keep my tk. as original as possible.
what is the best route to go about this and what parts do I need to round up and from who ?
is there caliper brackets that will bolt to drum brake spindles or do I need to use 71-72 spindles.
I,d like to use as many stock parts as possible so I can get replacements at local auto parts houses.

all help is greatly appreciated.
regards
bob

Re: 1970 c-10 front disc conversion question "again"

Buy 63-70 conversion spindles in stock height. ($229) Summit a Racing.
Direct bolt on.
Nothing to change.
Add a 71-72 m/c and prop valve.
Use aftermarket 6-lug rotors from Summit Racing.
You will need 71-87 6-lug steel wheels to clear the disc brakes calipers.
ECE brake hoses.

This is the simplest answer and the least parts to change.

I also have a 1970 C10 LWB 6 Lug four wheel drum.

I just purchased the Brother's Trucks complete disc brake conversion with power booster. It comes with ball joints and some tie rod ends.
Everything is brand new, and should bolt right on. As soon as the garage is clear, I'll be tearing it apart and starting the brake job.

Make sure you get the 63-70 conversion spindles.
I believe CPP 6-lug rotors are the cheapest.
Use Summit Racing for these also.

Looking at an old thread,... brake hoses from NAPA can be used in the conversion. (according to the thread).
NAPA #36616.

the will work,... but you have to change upper and lower balljoints.
then convert your outer tie rods to 71-72 tie rods,... which requires either:
1) $50-60 tie rod adapter
2) using the entire steering fron a 71-72 truck.
centerlink inner and outer tie rods.

I know this info has to be easily found on this site.
not complaining,... because I want to help,... but I feel like I have written this info 500 times on this board.
How are you guys searching for info???

you bought a kit that has a high profit margin for these companies like Brothers.
They make you swap all of those parts to cheaper 73-87 parts,... including spindles.
No need to do that now since they make and sell conversion spindles for the same money.
But your front end probably needs rebuilt anyway.
Dont forget to install new cross shafts in those a-arms.
They dont sell you those, because they are pricey. $$$

Make sure to check back when you get the disc brakes swapped in.

Re: 1970 c-10 front disc conversion question "again"

Remember that stock 6 lug wheels will not clear the dist brake caliper. You will either need a set of 71 up 6 lug wheels or a small spacer to bump the wheel out enough to clear the caliper. I believe a 1/4" spacer will work.

An easy way to tell which steel wheels will clear without a spacer is to check how many hubcap nubs it has. 4 nubs will clear disks, 3 nubs will not.
