Towing airstream with my C10
Ok, so im getting ready for spring of 2016 with my new to me 70 c10. Any suggestions on rear suspension upgrades or what not to tow my 1969 airstream safari. The trailer is 23ft long, 420lb tongue weight, about 3900lbs dry weight, trailer has its own electric brakes. Im going to be using weight distribution bars on the hitch also. I will be going over my truck, new hoses, oil changes, grease front end ect.

NICE set up!! I don't think you need anything special beyond a good hitch set up and brake controller. Best of luck!

That's a nice looking rig. I especially like the fact that the truck and trailer are from the same era. Other than the normal checking belts, hoses, fluids, etc and making sure the cooling system is in good condition, you should be good to go.

Re: Towing airstream with my C10
Thats a sweet set up. some will tell you to up grade to power disc brakes on the front, but as you say, you will be using trailer brakes. It still would be a good idea though incase you loose power to the trailer brakes. thats alotta weight to stop in an emergency. You could add a sway bar to the front which will improve cornering and handling alot.

Maybe some overload springs.

Coil rear or leaf? either way I would look for an air bag overload

Re: Towing airstream with my C10
Here are pics of my '78 Argosy [20'] 'Minuet Six Meter' behind my '71 Jimmy.
I've sold the trailer since, but I miss it. Pulled real easy. I added a brake controller, and had a shop rebuild the trailer's electric brakes. Also they rigged some wires so the trailer batteries would recharge from the GMC's battery when on the run.

Re: Towing airstream with my C10
When travelling with an older vehicle like this, I would also always keep a fuel pump, alternator, and maybe water pump with me.
They're all reasonably high failure rate items, cheap, and nice to have on hand. Even if you have to go to a shop, having the part can save you a day's wait at least. I have (but am not selling) an NOS air level kit for these trucks; even if you didn't find an NOS setup, basic air shocks might be useful for load levelling it.

Based on the attached chart, there may be other variables to consider - e.g. rear end gearing.
